Wes Craven 1939-2015 RIP

Right, I’ve been a bit hesitant with this one. Mainly because Wes Craven is one of my favourite directors and I really didn’t want this to be true. From The Last House on the Left to My Soul to Take, A Nightmare on Elm Street to Scream. He’s a director who’s made us, the audience afraid go to sleep time and time again. Now he was a man who gave us great films but he’s been an inspiration to a lot of people within the film industry. Some people that have paid tribute to the director include Bob Weinstein, Edgar Wright, Sam Raimi, Eli Roth, John Carpenter, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Amanda Wyss and Robert Englund.

Bob Weinstein, who hired Craven to direct Scream in 1996 has said “”He was a consummate filmmaker and his body of work will live on forever.”

Robert Englund who starred as Freddy Kruger in the Nightmare on Elm Street series tweeted: Hollywood’s lost a rare species in Wes Craven. The true Gentleman.

It’s safe to say from Hollywood’s reaction that he is a director who will never be forgotten for the work he has given us but who can put it better? “Horror films don’t create fear. They release it.”

May you rest in peace Wes Craven.
