Music Video Roundup 23/08/19

It’s 4PM on a Friday! This means it’s time for the music video roundup. If you’re new to either the blog or these music video roundup posts, this is how it works. Every week, I watch some of the best recently released music videos and compile them into a list for everyone’s viewing pleasure. They’re span across all the different genres, so expect something different for most of the tracks. The first band on this weeks countdown are the Pop-Punk trio Junior. They’ve recently released their debut record, ‘Beautiful Life’ but before the release, they had their amazing track, ‘Brick By Brick’ in video form. Fun Fact: the track was also chosen at the NXT Lound theme for WWE NXT UK’s takeover in Cardiff which is set to take place in 31st August 2019.

Heading to Oxford for our number two pick on the roundup this week is Oxford’s MSRY who’ve recently gone from being a trio to a quartet in the form of bassist Harvey Lake adding to their ranks.

‘Still Breaks My Heart’ is a fresh cut from the group which also features guest vocals from Cancer Bats Liam Cormier.

Kial Churcher (Vocals) on the track has said:

“We played with the idea of obsession and people being too gone in it to realise what was happening around them and there being people who want to break through that barrier for them. The idea of social media being an all-consuming entity is a very real and happening thing right now, the fact people are obsessed with their presentation on social media, the extent people go to for ‘likes’ and to gain a following on them is mind blowing and can consume your entire being, vision and thought process.

I think it shows in the video that we’re trying to break through to that person who can’t see what’s around them, and it becomes harder and harder as it goes on in the video to help them see that there’s more out there than their obsession.”

Another band who’ve had their debut record out is Acres.  ‘Lullaby’ was their fourth and final cut to be released before the whole thing was released.

Ben Lumber (Vocals) on the meaning behind the track has said:

“‘Lullaby’ is a song about losing someone you love prematurely. Before you get the chance to know them properly, life takes them away, leaving you with but a bittersweet memory of the short time you had together.

We all lose people we love and in those moments of great loss, the time we did have may never seem enough. Nonetheless, all we can do is be grateful for the time we were given with them and know their presence will live on, through memories, the way they have touched our hearts and the way they helped shape us as human beings.”

Shall we get some Geordie’s on this weeks list? Newcastle’s Hardcore five-some Ground  Culture have a huge new single in the wake of their signing to Hopeless Records.

Vocalist Roy Watson, on the release of ‘Life Won’t Wait’ has said:

“Have you ever questioned why life doesn’t slow down? In a world of loud thinkers, silence acts as nothing but a pawn in the iris of opportunity.

He continues: “We have all chosen blind ignorance over action at times, normally not down to a lack of ability, but because true progress feeds off a constant moulding discomfort which is difficult to stand in the centre of.

“How Well Do You Really Know Yourself?”

More British metal on this weeks list! This time its Harbinger. They recently played at the 2019 Bloodstock Open Air Festival wherein preparation, they had a video released for ‘Descendants’.

The video itself compromised of footage from the band’s appearance at this years Tech-Fest in July.

Next, Rising Duo Black Futures have shown what they’re capable of in ‘Body & Soul’. It’s the latest video to come off their upcoming release, ‘Never Not Nothing’.

On the track, they commented:

“‘Body & Soul’ is a simple, singular expression. We are all the same cocktail of matter squished together to form a body. A vessel for experience and feelings. It’s time to free yourself from the shackles of conformity.

Drain your brain of hyper-capitalist smug and become steward of all life! An empathy machine! Humans; the protectors of existence! Gather as a mass of humanity and have an apocalypse prevention party! Giving the meaningless meaning! I am you and you are me! Make Weird & Live Free!

Or summink like that! At least that’s what Joe Strummer told me in my dreams.”

Moving to the Glam Rock world (which I don’t know if it is a first but I’ll go ahead and say it is) is The Darkness. They have a new record, ‘Easter Is Cancelled’ which is set to be released on 4th October 2019 which will see them on a huge tour in support of the record. Let’s dive into the video.

Is the entertainment industry toxic? That’s just what iDKHOW are asking in their latest video released for ‘Social Climb’ as it shows both members Dallon Weekes and Ryan Seaman in a party of the living dead.

Weekes on the inspiration behind the track has said:

“’Social Climb’ is about my experiences living in L.A. for almost a decade, orbiting this world of celebrity and money… The parties that must be attended, the behaviors that must be adopted, and just not feeling part of that sphere. It’s what it feels like to be alone in a crowded room.”

Moving to one of the most exciting UK prospects in recent years is The Amazons. They’ve released a new single off their record ‘Future Dust’ ahead of their set at this years Leeds & Reading Festivals which started today!

Matt (Vocals) has said:

“I wrote 25 two months before I turned 25, to try to work out where I am in life. The song mimics the confusion that I constantly feel, that everyone my age feels. Are we all narcissists or are we really switched on?”

And I’ve saved the best track and video for last!

Slipknot are all anyone’s talking about in the Metal world at the moment and ahead of their upcoming Sixth studio record, the legends that they are have released a second single from the record. ‘Solway Firth’ is the name and our final pick in this week’s Music Video Roundup! Check it out below.

And that’s it for another week of music video roundup. Don’t forget to check back next week at 4PM sharp for another countdown of ten of the best recent music videos to feast your eyes upon. There’s also new posts every day on the Almost anything Media so be sure to check out anything that might catch your eye.

A little update.

Hey there music fans,

A little bit of bad news on my end. My computer has broken down and so I’ve had to take it in for repairs where it will be gone for 7-10 days initially and then however long it will take for repairs. When I have it back, the blog will resume as normal!

It’s something that’s out of my control and I’m gutted that’s happened but I’ll be kept busy with a lot of work when I’m back!

Keep rocking everyone!

AAMx

Music Video Roundup 16/08/19

It’s 4PM on a Friday! This means it’s time for the music video roundup. If you’re new to either the blog or these music video roundup posts, this is how it works. Every week, I watch some of the best recently released music videos and compile them into a list for everyone’s viewing pleasure. They’re span across all the different genres, so expect something different for most of the tracks. Up first this week are newcomers Like Giants. They’ve recently announced their debut UP, ‘Sovereign’ where frontman Daniel Kai has said:

“We wanted to create something that infused elements of bands that we have all separately taken influence from, with heavy breakdowns that will excite fans of heavier music, but the jumpy pop punk rhythms and melodies that will excite fans of bands like Neck Deep, State Champs and the like, with lyrics that everyone who listens can relate to, talking about issues that most people will experience in their day to day lives.”

Their lead single for the EP, ‘Cut And Run’ can be viewed below.

Switching things up to a more well known band, Bring Me The Horizon have recently released a video which features a montage of live shots, animated clips and anime! Yes, anime! Here’s ‘sugar honey ice & tea.

Ahead of their headlining stance over at this year’s Reading & Leeds festivals, Twenty One Pilots have dropped a video for their track, ‘The Hype’, which they filmed over the weekend of their hometowns show in Columbus, Ohio. Want to know what to expect? Check out their video below.

Next on the list, we’re heading across the pond to Essex for InMe. They’ve recently beefed up their line-up to a quintet as they’ve released, ‘The Next Song’.

On the track, frontman Dave Mcpherson has commented on its lyrical concept.

“This is a song about constantly singing about someone to the point of mental excess, and promising that the next song is going to be the last one I write about that person. The guys ran with this from the demo I made and painted their melodies all over it to make a much bigger sound, a big anthem that’s also quite heavy in its own way. ‘The Next Song’ is pop catharsis for me.”

Check out ‘The Next Song’ below.

Going to Kentucky for the next five-piece band in the form of White Reaper. This is another band who’s also at this year’s Reading & Leeds festivals but they give the fans just what they want. Check out ‘Real Long Time’ below.

Moving to the rising rockers Black Futures who’s released a new video for ‘Body & Soul’,  which is set to be on their soon to be released record, ‘Never Not Nothing’

On the track, the band have said:

“‘Body & Soul’ is a simple, singular expression. We are all the same cocktail of matter squished together to form a body. A vessel for experience and feelings. It’s time to free yourself from the shackles of conformity.

Drain your brain of hyper capitalist smug and become steward of all life!

Have we had any more bands from Scotland on the list apart from Woes lately? Now we do! Neshiima have got a lead single off their upcoming ‘Green’ EP! This will be the final instalment of their EP trilogy series.

Liam Hesslewood (Vocals) has said:

“This song was a tough one to write, as the theme is suicide prevention. The main hook outlines negative emotions that can trigger the need to take life into our own hands. The verses reflect on those that we are willing to let go, to see if they return to us or not.

It’s a plea to those in need to recognise that sometimes the dark clouds aren’t permanent. There is always a better way. It addresses the fact that numbing out the world through isolation only makes the situation worse.

With both this song and its video, we’re trying to show that we all need each other. The grass may not always be greener on the other side, but you must nurture what you have and learn to grow in your own way with the support of others… and by being a support to them.”

Everyone knows about Twilight right? The vampire film that’s not really scary or very vampyric in any way? Christina Perri had a song on one of the films (I have no idea which one, because I ‘ve never seen any of them).

Now though, New Found Glory have covered the track where they have not only recorded a cover, they’ve made a video for the track!

Everyone who is a Korn fan! I know I’ve kept you waiting until the final two videos here but the wait is worth it. This video isn’t your usual video as well, it’s a very trippy visualiser so there’s something different in this weeks list as well!

Check out ‘Cold’ below.

And for the final selection of this weeks Music Video Roundup, this has to be my favourite video this year. It’s silly, weird but fantastic! Alex Gaskath has a directors credit now for Simple Creatures latest video and what does the latest music video for his side project with Mark Hoppus contain? Sock Puppets! Just watch this video to believe it.

And that’s it for another week of music video roundup. Don’t forget to check back next week at 4PM sharp for another countdown of ten of the best recent music videos to feast your eyes upon. There’s also new posts every day on the Almost anything Media so be sure to check out anything that might catch your eye.

Live Review: Talk More @ Fulford Arms, York

Support: Red Yeti, Beth McCarthy, Saytr Play

Date: 22/06/19

The Fulford Arms. I haven’t been here in a little while and I’ve missed this place. But tonight, I’ve opted for a gig a little outside my comfort zone in Indie Rockers Talk More, a new band to the scene who have a lot of potential from the outlook of this gig. This was their first headlining show for York in what will certainly be a long line of upcoming shows. With a good mix of local artists, Red Yeti and Beth McCarthy were both on hand as support, while the heavier and rhythmic Satyr Play (From Manchester) also supported the newcomers.

Red Yeti were the debut performers on the night. I’ll say this about them, they were quite interesting to watch but from this interest, I think they’ll gather a little bit of criticism because they didn’t particularly stand out to everyone in the room and it’s sometimes hard to distinguish this from bands who have a little bit of shyness about them. It’s when they went a little faster in the tempo of their tracks, the atmosphere changed a little and there, it garnered more interest from the people in the room.

You can listen to their ‘Summer Life’ EP below.

Up next to grace the stage was Beth McCarthy. She’s been a little quiet on the scene as of late, mostly because she’s been busy with other ventures including with BBC Radio. However, it’s always a pleasure to see Beth perform because she is an artist that nobody ever tires of watching as she’s always reinventing herself to allow her room to grow in this ever-changing field of music. I do have to say hearing ‘Wildfire’ in a more intimate setting such as The Fulford Arms was a welcomed treat as well because with everyone joining in mixed with Beth’s signature on-stage banter with the crowd is just something that has to be experienced. ‘The old Beth is dead’ is something which the crowds have heard a few times now, but she does embody the old Beth for ‘Mr Cliché’, something if older fans of hers have heard before, is fantastic on the ear because it’s these tracks we just long to hear once again.

Check out Beth’s video for ‘Wildfire’ below.

Turning things to eleven from the start of the final support act were the infectious Manchester hailing Saytr Play. They seemed as if they were a crossbreed of genres in all honestly, from Glam rock where you might find Steel Panther and a little more Indie Rock for other tracks but honestly, that just made them all the more glorious to watch. The standout tracks for these examples would be ‘Mothers Love’ and ‘Don’t Go East’. and you can tell from their guitar sections, this is something that needs to be different in order for them to be a standout band, where in fact this isn’t the only reason they grab your attention right from the start of their set. What should be commented on is the chemistry the members of the band have between each other because for a lot of bands I go to see live, only a few actually interact with each other on stage and in this society of performers, it’s something which I’m applauding.

Check out Saytr Plays video for ‘Fragile’ below.

Now, most new bands onto the scene when they headline a show, they only just manage to stick the landing, not Talk More, they not only exceeded my expectations, they might just well be the most exciting thing to come out of York in a while now.

As the band take to the stage, from the start the band let us know that they mean business. You can forgive their lack of experience for being new but the quality of their sound and musicianship of the group shines aplenty.

There was a little bit of a disaster though their set when their guitarists strap, unfortunately, broke mid-song which resulted in him having to adjust the microphone quickly and have him hunched over as if he was Gollum from Lord Of The Rings but even through this, he did power through wherein the end. Fair to say though, this didn’t put anyone off their performance and this to me is a good sign of quality for the band not to be deterred.

From what I saw, it’s Talk More 1-0 York for this set and hopefully, we’ll hear all the material heard on the night and more in the coming months. I predict massive things for this band and in case you haven’t heard of them before, you will soon!

The gallery for the gig will be within a separate post to this which can be viewed through the following link.

Check out their tracks ‘Planned Flights’ and ‘Heart Again’ below.

Music Video Roundup 09/08/19

It’s 4PM on a Friday! This means it’s time for the music video roundup. If you’re new to either the blog or these music video roundup posts, this is how it works. Every week, I watch some of the best recently released music videos and compile them into a list for everyone’s viewing pleasure. They’re span across all the different genres, so expect something different for most of the tracks. First up this week is Grammy Nominated Pop-Rocker Avril Lavigne. Recently she has debuted her latest single, ‘Head Above Water’. Warning: there are some Amy Lee red dress vibes going on here.

With the release of her seventh record, ‘Birth Of Violence’ coming up, Chelsea Wolfe has released a brand new video for the release of her latest single, ‘American Darkness’.

Stray From The Path are just on an upward trajectory right now, and with the release of their new track, ‘Fortune Teller’.

On the track, the band have shared: Describing the track, the band say “Musically, a heavily syncopated assault on the senses. Lyrically, a fired-up attack on the status quo. Written as an antidote to the boomer mentality, Fortune Teller is an anthem for building a better future – no matter how badly it’s been laid out by the past.”

Within the last few weeks, the British metalcore band TheCityIsOurs have released their debut record! ‘Low’ was released and the last cut before they dropped the entire record was called ‘If You Know, You Know’.

Mikey Page (Guitar/Vocals) shared:

“‘If You Know, You Know’ is a ray of positivity, in an otherwise dark album, born out of the frustration of living with your own demons. In a climate dominated by social media, we often seek validation from others around us, usually from people who are in no way qualified to do so, yet it can be extremely frustrating when we are overlooked or judged by others.

This track is about standing by what you believe in and doing what makes you happy – regardless of what anybody else has to say. Learning to love yourself can be a challenging concept, but it’s impossible to help others, without looking after yourself. We wanted to highlight that despite all the challenges featured throughout ‘Low’ there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Heading straight across to Lincoln, we have the hardcore up and comers Reclaimer who’ve recently dropped a video for ‘Canvey’, the latest single to come from their recently released EP, ‘Grief, Enslaved’.

This isn’t just a British list from a certain point, don’t worry. Moving to Brighton for the next video, they were the Rockest Record on Daniel P. Carters Radio 1 Rock Show, it’s Gender Roles! Here’s ‘Hey With Two Why’s’.

Moving to America Now, Florida’s Happy Hour a few months back released their second EP, ‘Love Hurts’ but where’s the video?

Full of demonic seduction to destroy their victim, check out ‘Cigarettes’ below.

Moving across to California, Ceremony are the band at number eight this week. They’re gearing up for the release of their new record, ‘In The Spirit World Now’ in just two weeks and they have released their title track to tear the world apart.

‘In The Spirit World Now’, is set to be released on August 23rd 2019.

Penultimate video time! I had to include this video because Yonaka are one of the best UK bands coming up in the scene right now!

They’ve recently released a video for ‘Rockstar’, a track off their debut record, ‘Don’t Wait ‘Til Tomorrow’.

And we’ve come to the finale! And I’ve made sure it’s a big one! Bullet For My Valentine has unveiled a brand new video for ‘Piece Of Me’. It’s off their 2018 record ‘Gravity’ which also features footage from the band’s recent tour which included huge shows at London’s Alexandra Palace and from Slam Dunk Festival 2019. Let’s dive in.

And that’s it for another week of music video roundup. Don’t forget to check back next week at 4PM sharp for another countdown of ten of the best recent music videos to feast your eyes upon. There’s also new posts every day on the Almost anything Media so be sure to check out anything that might catch your eye.

Ariel View Sign To Epitaph Records

To celebrate their new record deal with Epitaph Records, the indie surf rockers have shared a brand new track ‘Friday Nights!

Vocalist Harmonie Martinez has said:

“I wrote ‘Friday Nights’ when the relationship ended with my ex and I impulsively wrote down a list of all the times they did me wrong in our relationship,”

“The emotion in this song is honest and I feel like that’s a big reason why most of our fans can connect to it. We all go through heartbreak, betrayal, etc. It’s a type of song that we can all relate to and have a person say “someone out there has gone through the same shit that I’ve gone through” and I hope that this song helps someone just as much as it helped me.”

Check out ‘Friday Nights’ below.
