Single Review: Against The Current – ‘That Won’t Save Us’

There’s a brand new era coming in for Against The Current now and this is a much different turn than what we’ve seen in their previous 2018 ‘Past Lives’ record. This new cycle of music in this track sees them in a much darker and moody aspect to what we’ve come to know from the band and turn them into more of a guitar driven sound which is exciting in a lot of ways because some of the best tracks Against The Current have delivered in the past from previous material is where the guitar shines to mix with Costanza’s massive voice.

It feels as if the band are going to give off a lot of energy if ‘That Won’t Save Us’ is any indicator to how the future of their sound is going to be and this anger they have which feeds the sound will only bring their performances to a higher level when the live shows return. Lyrically it’s keeping up with the anthemic nature of their body of work has where they blend their personality in a way that nobody but his band can deliver on better.

At the time of writing, it’s uncertain whether or not the track will feature on a forthcoming EP or album, or will remain as a stand alone single.

In a statement, frontwoman Chrissy Costanza says:

“We knew we wanted it to have a lot of energy. I had so much anger and frustration built up from my personal life and the business. A lot of confusion and passive-aggressive feelings were starting to boil over. The song points the finger right in your face and says, ‘What you’re doing right now isn’t going to save us. What do you want to do about it? Do you want to keep doing what you’re doing and know this is going to die? Or, are you ready to make a change?
