New Music Video Roundup 27/11/20

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

Formed in 2018, the young Los Angeles-based duo Analog Party has distilled their love for grunge, classic rock, post-punk, and industrial music into both a debut EP Model Youth (released April 19, 2019) and single Absolution (released June 19, 2020). Comprised of singer/multi-instrumentalist Animaan Pathak and bassist Charles Horin, the band’s unique sound walks a fine line between fierce riff-based rock and moody, atmospheric textures, touching on both introspective and existential lyrical themes. Their latest single “One” is reminiscent of bands like Alice in Chains and Deftones — soaring vocal harmonies, viscous heavy guitars, and mammoth drums serve as an immense sonic backdrop to a brooding reflection on how to exist in an increasingly chaotic society.

“Although I wrote the song late last year, the lyrics feel even more relevant now. While the verses capture the overwhelming waves of anxiety, fear, and loneliness that stem from being a young person in this currently fucked up period of history, the chorus captures the dichotomy of hope and hopelessness for the future. The phrase ‘I am one’ could be viewed as a self-affirming and empowering statement just as much as it is a reflection on how helpless and alone one can feel in today’s society. For the video, we teamed up with our friends at Sleepless Format (Brandon Villalovos and Mike Williamson) to capture a simple performance with a bleak visual tone to match the vibe of the music.” explains vocalist / multi-instrumentalist Animaan.

Seconds up in this weeks roundup are the Pop-Rock Trio taking the world by storm in Waterparks whom have shared a video for ‘Lowkey As Hell’.

“The song is a recap of the last year or so. It really describes what’s been going on and who I am. When I’m on stage, I’m a forward-facing, extroverted presence. At the same time, I’m also the biggest hermit ever. I just like to stay in, ignore my phone a lot, and write. I’m naturally reserved in my day-to-day life. The juxtaposition of loud materialism versus private emotion in that opening line really encapsulates the feeling I wanted to get across in the rest of the song.”

Heading out on their latest video are Mayday Parade for ‘Out Of Here’.

To be more precise about what the song is written about, we have to turn to drummer Jake Bundrick:

“’I Can Only Hope,’ simply put, is about my father. He recently had some medical issues in Georgia and being that I live in California, I felt so far away. The song is about being terrified. It’s about that uncertainty whether someone will pull through something so difficult. It’s about the unknown that follows all of it and never forgetting the sounds or senses of the moment when you received the news.”

After some teasing on both artists part, Stand Atlantic and Mokita have released their brand new collaboration.

‘I’m Sorry’ is a proper heart-tugging anthem detailing the regrets that exist inside of you when love breaks down wrapped in the soft patter of electronic drums and plucking of guitar strings.

As Stand have said, it’s something a little different for them to release but it’s something that is very welcome indeed.

Snake eyes latest release has them share a video for ‘Bugged Out’.

This is a cut from the band’s just-released debut EP ‘skeletons’, which arrived last month.

Guitarist and vocalist Jim Heffy says: “This was an idea I’d had for many years and that had many different forms. There were other guitar parts, as it was originally written for two guitars, but when I decided snake eyes should be a one-guitar band, I changed up the track. I was having a really bad time with insomnia and when I did sleep I would have weird nightmares and that’s kinda what the song’s about. Scary stuff, I know.”

Next up we have Never Not Nothing with their latest effort, ‘Upbeat Deadbeat’.

The duo – who recently changed their name from Black Futures – are following up their recent drop, ‘Ritual Destruction’, released last month.

Space explains: “The song grew from this idea of an ‘Existential Price List’. A literal absurdist depiction of their being a cost to your every action as a living entity. Be it an environmental cost, personal cost, societal cost. We may be more aware than ever of the impact our actions have on our surroundings.

“It felt important to juxtapose ‘Survival Of The Nicest’ with a brutally honest depiction of my personal battle with a tormented predisposition towards loss and disaster. The trial of trying so hard to present positive meaning in the face of the ridiculous walls we’ve built around us in the shape of societal norms, rules and antiquated systems that celebrate detached, divisive, destructive leaders.

“But we are not alone, we can project our own meaning on to the world using art and music as a subversive tool to give each other the agency to change and explore new frontiers. We’re hoping for Survival of The Nicest!”

Skywalker have announced that they have signed to Pale Chord and they are celebrating in style.

Vocalist Jay Kocera had this to say about the signing:

“We’re really excited to be partnering with Pale Chord for the release of our new album! Pale Chord share our vision and we wholeheartedly appreciate their unwavering support and commitment to growing the band globally.”

Their first celebration is the release of a new music video which has a lot of sentimentality for Jay as he explains here:

“[This is] a pure expression of depression, despair, and loneliness. It’s about pondering my earlier decisions to “go it alone” and only rely on myself, as is the contemporary mantra of extreme individualism. In the midst of it, I find loneliness, emptiness, cold, and gloom. I want to escape but find myself unable to do so. In the bridge, I turn to breathing meditation, a technique so cynically abused by the worst players of global markets and capitalism, and ultimately fail. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of love, acceptance and letting go of what is not necessary or wholesome.”

Smrtdeath, who was born Mike Skwark, has announced his new album ‘Somethjings Wrong’ due out November 20 via Epitaph. Now, Smrtdeath shares his latest single from the forthcoming record. ‘Don’t Love Me’ epitomizes what Skwark does best, making anthems out of the everyday. With an incredibly catchy, and powerful chorus, the song transcends the underground alternative rap scene and makes it an infectious earworm.

“’Don’t Love Me’ is about wanting someone you can’t have,” explains Skwark. “Kind of like meeting someone at the wrong time, or when you’re too focused on yourself to have time to pursue a connection anywhere else. It’s also about the misguided feelings people can have about someone based on a fleeting connection.”

Now for the penultimate this week. UK four-piece LOVEBREAKERS dropped its new single “Family Man” via Little Rocket Records. The song appears on their forthcoming debut LP “Primary Colours” out in Spring 2021.

Jack Perry of LOVEBREAKERS says, “The song tells a short story of someone who has just became a parent. It’s influenced from some close friends of mine who recently started their own families. It’s a “homage” to those guys. It’s that back and forth of “DAMN THIS SUCKS, BUT I WOULDN’T CHANGE IT FOR THE WORLD.” The verses are the negative side of things and the pre choruses/choruses are the positive side.”

And now it’s time for the final video this week and it’s emotional as hell. This is Charlie Simpson with his latest single, ‘I See You’

The track gives delicate piano sounds mixed with swirling strings that shield the beautiful melodies before an overwhelming finale sends shivers straight down your spine. It’s just wow. You have to check this out. do it.

It’s lovely basically and you can listen to it right here:

And that’s it for another week of a countdown of the best singles out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. New Music Roundup 27/11/20

Hello everyone welcome back to the New Music Roundup! We’re here for a roundup of five of the best recently released tracks. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week is the return of The All American Rejects. ‘Me Vs. The World’ is the band’s first track release in over a year since ‘Send Her To Heaven’ in July 2019 and we covered it in a single review last week but we love this so much we had to have it as our first choice in this weeks roundup.

Lande Hekt has released a further glimpse of her beautifully poignant debut album ‘Going to Hell’, which is set for release 22 Jan 2021 via Get Better Records. A driven but wistful composition, new single Undone is full of longing and regret. In typically relatable style, Lande says “This one is about feeling sorry for yourself when you break up with someone that you weren’t even going out with.”

Coming out is the prevailing topic of the record with the title track itself being “about how homophobia and heteronormative culture can make you feel isolated and scared of being yourself,” as Hekt herself explains her thoughts and feelings surrounding her sexuality, continuing: “I internalised a lot of that culture for a long time and it wasn’t until I found myself surrounded by queer and trans people and friends, that I realised I could live happily in a way that felt right. I know I’m not alone in feeling like this and it was other people sharing their experiences with me that helped me out, so I named the album after this song to try and reach people who might want to be reached. It’s also not a dig on all Catholics; it’s just an expression of scepticism from a gay person regarding conservatism.”

‘Going to Hell’ sounds like the sum of Hekt’s wide-ranging influences – The Replacements, The Raincoats, Sharon Van Etten, The Slits, Patti Smith, Sacred Paws, Le Tigre, Against Me! – multiplied by her own distinct voice.

More music coming right now as the New Jersey favourites Can’t Swim are continuing their preparation for their upcoming EP release in ‘Someone Who Isn’t Me’ with their latest, ‘Casey’.

The EP is set to be released on December 4th 2020.

Penultimate choice this week are the metal-grime crossover masters Hacktivist with their latest track ‘Armoured Core’ which also features the guest vocals of Kid Bookie.

Co-Vocalist Jot Maxi says:

“This is a song for anyone who is going through a hard time and needs building up. It’s motivational. It makes you feel like, ‘Nothing can touch me, I can do this’, but it’s personal to Hacktivist as well. With what we’ve been through, a lot of other bands might have broken up, but we’re back with this new record and a new dynamic, which even I think is great and I’m super self-critical. As long as you’re alive and still breathing, your core is armoured and protected by something. This song is a reminder to stay strong.”

The final choice this week are Wild Pink whom have been teasing their upcoming record with their latest single, ‘You Can Have It Back’.

It’s a cut from ‘A Billion Little Lights’. The follow-up to 2018’s ‘Yolk In The Fur’, the full-length is the band’s first with Toronto-based label Royal Mountain Records, and is due on 19th February.

Frontman John Ross says: “This was the last song I wrote for the album, and it’s also one of the most fun to play live. Wild Pink songs typically don’t follow conventional song structures but with this one I did. Julia’s vocals totally make this song what it is, and I love Dan’s harmonies in the choruses – I wrote it with the intention of having someone else sing it. but ended up just singing it myself. This song is inspired by Fleetwood Mac and, once again, “If I Needed You” by Townes Van Zandt (one of the greatest songs ever written). Special cameo by Computer the Dog.”

And that’s it for another week of a roundup of the best new tracks out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. Single Review – Middle Part – Busy

Brooklyn-based indie pop artist Middle Part creates synth-laden music in the hopes of making you feel something. Composed with honesty and sincerity, his music takes inspiration from both 90’s and early Millenium alternative bands. Middle Part was born when singer Andrew Selkōw moved to the deepest parts of Northern Alaska to find himself, after experiencing a major meltdown. Living in a shipping container in the isolated vastness of the Alaskan wilderness, Selkōw ignited his love for literature and music, with the musician sharing, “Art is important, no matter how you decide to approach it. There’s no age or formula so just create. It’s the most healing form of therapy I’ve ever experienced.”

Middle Part’s upcoming six-track EP I Wish I Was Alive is heavily driven by his personal experiences, his shortcomings, his struggle with depression, dissociation and overall loss. It’s about grasping the concept of death, getting older, mental instability and self-reflection. Selkōw confides, “I wanted to make sure and let go of my ego before I pursued music again so that’s a big theme in this record as well as the inability to connect especially when you’re compartmentalizing everything all of the time. I wanted to be really honest and vulnerable in this batch of songs. I’m so goddamn sensitive and hate to show it, but it just bleeds through all of my music.”

His latest single “Busy” is the third single to be released off of I Wish I Was Alive. Detailing the songwriters interpersonal relationships and ego death, it is inspired by early millennium alt pop artists like Michelle Branch and Natalie Imbruglia, with a modernized sonic twist to the likes of Clairo. The stripped back “Busy” is set on a backbone of chugging acoustic guitars, breakbeats and sprinkled with synthesizers to achieve a sonically nostalgic song about the pitfalls of friendship in an attempt to signify that ego is unnecessary, and vulnerability should be the priority.

Selkōw confides, “A lot of this record is about ego, vulnerability, and dealing with loss. It’s also about finding a balance with your mental well being. Busy touches on that theme of letting go of your ego and being more vulnerable with the people around you. That’s the message I’m trying to get across, and I feel that ties in with the EP’s title, which is all about being more present rather than mentally checked out.”

Listening to Middle Part is like reading one of Selkōw’s journal entries and uncovering all the back and forth he has in his head on a regular basis. His honest songwriting grants people access to creating art in a safe space, admitting, “I just want people to relate. I so desperately want to connect and that might be the message.”

Check out the video for ‘Busy’ below.

Rating: 3.5/5

This track is just a slow moving masterpiece to which you’ll be addicted to the listening from the start. The easy going nature mixed with the grunge influence is something special when you’ll be revisiting again. This and the added nostalgia of the VHS-esque music video is one that shows the artist’s best days are ahead of him.

Black Veil Brides Jinxx Gives Covid Update

Last week Jinxx, the guitarist of Black Veil Brides revealed that he had contracted coronavirus and was isolating from his wife and new son Lennon. There has been some good news from his camp as he’s getting better and is advising fans to keep vigilant.

“Thank you all for the outpouring of well wishes I received while I’ve been hunkered down with COVID,” he says. “Little update on my condition, today is the first day I don’t feel like absolute death, although I still can’t smell or taste anything and my brain is still a little foggy. I’m not quite 100 per cent, but I have some energy back and I’m excited because the Department of Health says that I can come out of quarantine tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

“Even though I won’t be able to taste any of the food, I get to hold my wife and son again after a week and a half of not being able to and I’m extremely grateful for that.”

In addition took the opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of being careful over Thanksgiving and Christmas.

“I just wanted to say to everyone to continue to stay safe and please wear a mask! No matter how annoying it is,” he says. “And take this seriously. This is no hoax and cases are spiking everywhere, and no-one is immune. And just because you got a negative result doesn’t make you immune or mean you may not have just contracted it. So be cautious and maybe think twice about travel and gathering plans over the holidays.

“Though I appreciate the good wishes, I’m not sharing my story for sympathy as much as a warning, especially a day before people are most likely gathering with people outside of their household despite CDC guidelines advising not to,” Jinxx continues. “Having a newborn in our lives, we thought we had been super extra careful following all the protocols and yet @mommajinxx and I still got it. So be safe out there, stay home if you can, FaceTime and Zoom exist! Be courteous to your family and the rest of the world, let’s try to avoid any more people getting sick!”

We here at Almost Anything Media do wish Jinxx a speedy recovery!

Check Out Senses Fail’s New Festive EP, ‘Christmas Has Been Cancelled Due To Lack Of Hustle’

There’s some more festive spirit coming!

Senses Fail have announced a new two track EP titled as ‘Christmas Has Been Cancelled Due To Lack Of Hustle’.

Buddy Nielsen (Vocals) says:

“My step father have been telling me for 20 years that the only way to make it in the music industry is to do Christmas covers. He would point out Paul McCartney, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and WHAM as prime examples of musicians who did them right. He wasn’t wrong but I wasn’t in any rush.

Christmas songs are best sung in July and when it comes time for them, I’m usually burnt out, however, this year, there wasn’t much to sing about or celebrate so I reserved my carols for these songs.

I chose the two greatest Christmas songs that few know and even fewer cover. I was once told that if you build it they will come, I have built it and I hope you come.

Happy Holidays and fuck 2020.”

The two tracks? They’re right below for you to listen to:

Here’s ‘I Wish It Was Christmas Today’.

And here’s ‘Donde Esta Santa Clause’.

For You The Moon Announce Signing To Slam Dunk Records, Release New Single

For You The Moon have announced that the band have signed to Slam Dunk Records.

In addition to the signing, the band have released their new single, ‘Lost Without It’.

It’s an early teaser from the pop-rock newcomers’ upcoming debut EP, set for release in 2021, and it arrives with a video that was shot in their current homebase of Leeds.

Frontman Isaac Cooter explains: “I wrote ‘Lost Without It’ when I was in that weird period after breaking up with somebody, in that place where you’re really trying to numb your own feelings and I was partying more often than I wasn’t. You end up surrounded by other people who are just as out of it as you are, probably trying to forget their problems by doing the same thing.”

Beartooth Finish Recording Fourth Record

Ohio heavy hitters Beartooth have confirmed their upcoming fourth full length record has been completed. This will be their follow up to their 2018 release, ‘Disease’.

In addition to this being Beartooth’s fourth record, it will be the first since the departure of guitarist Kamron Bradbury, who stepped down from the band earlier this year.

More details surrounding Beartooth’s fourth studio record will be confirmed as they develop.
