Hello everybody. If you’re here then you know that means! It’s time for another band interview of the day! Today we have Delilah Daybreaks! They are a heartfelt punk rock trio from Minneapolis whom have been going since 2015! Let’s get talking to them!
- If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?
I am Doyle Alexander, I play guitar and sing in the band Delilah Daybreaks alongside Owen Hiber and Mycah Rapoport.
- How did you all meet?
Well, I met Owen through just being the only other person around his age who played guitar, and I met Mycah through us living in the same apartments and in turn having the same bus stop.
- How long have you been playing?
I have been playing guitar for about ten years now, and Delilah Daybreaks has been playing together for about four to five of those years.
- What three words would you use to describe the music you play?
I would probably say… passionate, honest, and driven.
- What are your musical influences?
Recently my biggest one has been The Lawrence Arms, particularly the songs written by Chris McCaughan. The other big ones would be the Violent Femmes, Weezer, The Pixies, and Alkaline Trio…
- What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?
Well, there hasn’t been a ton of particularly odd things at our shows but the biggest thing I can remember is just seeing people get real handsy and make out in the back of a crowd. It trips me up every time I see it and it’s a lot more frequent than I ever expected it to be. For example, we will be in the middle of the set and I will this dude with his hand up a girls shirt so casually, clearly not giving a flying fuck about anyone around him, and like I said before it really isn’t too strange but my memory of shows isn’t super fresh either.
- Being away from the stages since last year, where is the one place you’d visit when the restrictions are lifted?
I really want to get the band down to Chicago as soon as possible, we have never played there and I think once all of this wraps up playing down there would be really special.
- What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?
Most of the time I’m pretty upfront about my music taste because I couldn’t care less what someone else thinks of my taste because well.. it’s my music taste, not yours… so I generally don’t get too embarrassed about my taste in music. However, I have listened to the Hamilton soundtrack an embarrassing amount of times, which I do kinda hide.
- What have you been listening to in the last few weeks?
Recently I have been going crazy over that new Lil Nas X song Montero, I have also been cranking up some Nomeansno, and that new Waterparks song Numb kicks ass! Also, of course, everyone has their staples that never leave.. for me, that’s Weezer’s album, Pinkerton, The Smiths The Queen is Dead… and yes I know Morrissey is bigoted and dumb but Johnny Marr kicks too much ass to be ignored so I’m sorry. Oh, and I also love Slipknot’s first album, that thing has been on repeat for at least the last five years in my playlists.
- Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?
We have been working on a new release that is aimed for late summer or early fall, and we just put out our new ep called [REDACTED] which is everywhere now.
Check out the bands EP, [REDACTED] below.
