Hello everybody, I know you’ve been missing these and we’re back with a new post in the Band Of The Day Interview. Today we have Ghosts Of Sunset Mae up of Todd Long and John Merchant where their original idea was a concept record loosely based on 1980’s hair metal. This is a good one! Let’s dive in!
1. If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?
Hello. Thank you for taking the time with us. We are duo known as Ghosts Of Sunset. John Merchant (Vocals, Guitar, Songwriter) is from Ludington, Michigan and Todd Long (Drums, Bass, Backing Vocals) is currently living in Parrish, Florida. We just released our latest single “No Saints In The City” to radio via Golden Robot Records. The Single hits Itunes and all streaming sites on June 8th.
2. How did you all meet?
John and I met in High School back in Western Michigan in the early 90s and formed a strong bond over our love for Hard Rock Music. We have been playing together off and on ever since
3. How long have you been playing?
We both started playing in the local bar scene doing cover songs since we were right out of high school. Playing Judas Priest, Van Halen, AC/DC Covers. We never looked back!
4. What three words would you use to describe the music you play?
Hard Rock Influenced
5. What are your musical influences?
Though we both have our separate influences, we both have a strong love for The Beatles, Johnny Cash, The Sex Pistols, Early Bon Jovi, Kiss. It’s all over the map really!
6. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?
No lie, John and I were playing a biker party and there was a guy who wrapped his “man hood” around our singers’ mic stand! We couldn’t believe it! Too funny!
7. Being away from the stages since last year, where is the one place you’d visit when the restrictions are lifted?
I would love to go back to Las Vegas. It’s my favorite city, I believe it is actually open now!
8. What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?
Well I guess this is me admitting that in my vinyl collection I have Christoher Cross – Christopher Cross (Sailing, Ride Like The Wind) He gets a lot of flak for being “Yacht Rock” but the guy is a fantastic songwriter and guitarists! I am never ashamed to admit I like anything. If it’s good it’s good no matter the genre!
9. What have you been listening in the last few weeks?
I’m a huge Pop Punk fan so I’ve been listening to (Bearings, Seaway, girlfriends, Broadside) I still listen to 80’s Hard Rock though too! That’s my first love!
10. Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?
We just released our latest single “No Saints In The City” to radio. Drops on June 8th to streaming sites and Itunes. The Second single will come out probably mid to late summer I’m guessing. I believe the next single is going to be a ballad called “If You’re Not Coming Back”. The full album drops in the fall or early winter.
