Band Of The Day Interview – Little King

Today on the Band Of The Day Interview we talk to Little King. During the chat we talk on the influence of commercials and other influences and what Ryan listens to after a records finished.

If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?

Hi! My name is Ryan…nice to meet you. I play guitar and sing and write and produce and parent and event plan and play guitar. Sometimes, I like to walk and travel and eat and meditate and screw. Not all at the same time, but sometimes.

What three words would you use to describe the music you play?

Dynamic, Thoughtful, Contaminated.

What are your musical influences?

Everything is a song in my head. The tv, chewing my food, the Pomeranian howling at my mom…those are songs to me. I guess maybe the influences just trace back to commercials for the 70’s kid crowds. The ones for cereal and toys during the SuperFriends. I can still sing those by heart and I was like 5 or 6.

Love David Byrne and Neil Peart for sure. Peter Tosh and EVH and poor Layne Staley too. Hendrix. Iron Maiden for sure early on. Jimmy Page is a huge influence always. Same with The Who and some U2. Megadeth.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?

Of the top 5, 4 of them are NOT APPROPRIATE for print.

So I’d say #3 which will have to be #1 for now would be a party of revelers dressed up as salamanders and hissing at the band. Like 25 of them in Socorro, New Mexico. Sofa King Weird.

Being away from the stages since last year, where is the one place you’d visit when the restrictions are lifted?

I’d love to play in Italy and Spain and France and Germany and Netherlands and Belgium. I think they like some of our music over there, and those are just places that I want to revisit. If we could play in India I’d love to do that as well.  Our drummer Eddy played there with Overkill or Ministry, can’t remember which. That would be badass!

What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?

I hold the record for highest blood alcohol content in an arrested bald idiot  in a Corvette in 2019 in Lower Delaware. Not proud, but that is mine.

What have you been listening in the last few weeks?

You know…nothing. Not really. My ears are kinda fried for a good while when I finish a record.  I’ll start back with some 70’s reggae and maybe some oldies. Like 50’s oldies. Then I can gradually add back the usual suspects. Tupac is great to ease back into music, too

Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?

Our 7th record is called Amuse De Q and it’s due out September 3 of 2021. I’m really proud of it…the folks on the album wrote great parts and played so well. I’m really lucky. Single is Keyboard Soldier and that’s out now everywhere. YouTube especially at Little King Official, but everything is always on my web site too at
