Portsmouth Indie/ Surf-Pop trio DUTCH CRIMINAL RECORD are back with their first single ‘Return To Dust’ taken from their upcoming 5 track EP ‘It’s Gonna Be Okay’. Having built a healthy following thanks to the success of their previous releases. which have seen the band gain Spotify Editorial playlist placements (including New Music Friday), climbing into the US Viral Top 50 and receiving regular radio play from Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, Sam Thrussell, Joe Frampton and Joe Delaney-Stone are once again back with the airy and uplifting new single ahead of their upcoming five track EP.
Building layers of shimmering chorus drenched guitars, bouncing bass and driving drums under Sam’s delicate, honest lead vocals, ‘Return To Dust’ once again showcases the three piece’s ability to create breezy feel good indie-pop that effortlessly holds both atmosphere and commercial appeal in equal measure. Reminiscent of 80’s indie, bringing together elements of Cocotau Twins and The Cure whilst also capturing an air of 6 music favourites Death Cab For Cutie the track is an insight to the upcoming EP’s vibrant soundscape.
Speaking of ‘Return To Dust’, Sam explains:
“I wrote it during the first lockdown whilst listening to early Radiohead. It was the first proper ‘love’ song I’d written in years and it’s about the early stages of falling in love and all the confusion and weird feelings it brings. After making a quick demo of the track I emailed it over to Joe who wrote that dreamy guitar riff and added some extra acoustic guitars and keyboard parts.”
Having launched their new record label Novium Records through 2020, a label aimed at helping local Chichester artists get discovered, the band have used their influence to help gain recognition on a national level at a time when they’re unable to play live shows. With Successes including Clout, Rolling Stone India, Killing Moon and radio play on Radio X all coming as a result of Novium Records and Dutch Criminal Record’s work, the local scene in Chichester has never been stronger.
With their mixture of addictive guitar riffs, deep grooves and infectious vocal hooks, Dutch Criminal Record have quickly asserted themselves as ones-to-watch in the UK guitar scene. Having gained support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, Radio X, The Guardian, Clash, Earmilk alongside placements on a number of Spotify Editorial and This Feeling playlists, the trio have played support for the likes of indie heavyweights Sea Girls, Ra Ra Riot and Spinn. With sell-out shows at Rough Trade in Bristol, the pair are hoping to get back to touring in late 2021 with a selection of UK dates to support the new EP.
