Thornhill Release New Single, ‘Raw’

Peeling back yet another layer of their impending sophomore album Heroine due out on 3rd June, the brand new single ‘Raw’ from Melbourne rockers Thornhill oozes with blistering charm and towering soundscapes.

Driven by odes to classic Hollywood and cinematic scores, Heroine expands upon sonic elements explored on Thornhill‘s 2019 debut album The Dark Pool, with the group’s latest track ‘Raw’ immersing into sharp alternative and rock flavours, complete with razor-sharp riffs, snarling basslines and pummeling beats.

Flitting between grit and billowing ambience, ‘Raw’ also ultimately allows its overarching narrative to take the reins, as vocalist Jacob Charlton explains: “The story of the song ‘Raw’ follows an actress’s responses to various requests, love letters and desperate attempts made by fans and stalkers after her first major success, appearing in a soon to be cult classic film. This song primarily focuses on character of the voice rather than complex melodies and harmonies so I really wanted to bring a story to life that matches the attitude of the instruments. The way that she fights back these attempts and turns them down requires a lot of bravery and strength and it was more of the angle I wanted to hit, rather than relying on angry, dark lyrical themes.”

The Ever Living Release New Single, ‘Omniphorm’

London-based alternative-metal entity THE EVER LIVING release their epic new single ‘Omniphorm’. The track is taken from their forthcoming sophomore album ‘Artificial Devices,’ set for release on 15th July 2022.

The band’s latest offering guides the listener on an expansive journey of ambience and hypnotic melodies, accompanied by gargantuan slabs of drop-tuned riffs. Speaking on the creation of their latest beast, guitarist Andrei Alan comments:

“Omniphorm is the result of experimentation and was born out of dissatisfaction with the new music I was hearing through the lockdown. The concept was to contrast the most ambient and beautiful elements of our sound with the heaviest. The guitars are drenched in effects, more so than ever before; and the groove and weight of the riffs really showcase the new, much lower guitar tuning used for the album.” Alan reflects adding: “Despite the new tuning, new effects, and new ways of playing, the track remains reassuringly THE EVER LIVING and was the obvious choice as the opener for the album, setting the tone for what follows…”

American Teeth Shares New Single, ‘Fasterfaster’

American Teeth has shared a new single, ‘Fasterfaster’

“‘fasterfaster’ is about my frustration with the way our culture views success,” the artist says. “Everybody seems to be chasing some bullshit idea that when you achieve a level of success, you will be happy. Meanwhile, the journey is fucking miserable, and then the whole point of living is lost. This is my reminder to myself that working harder and faster doesn’t necessarily bring success faster, if it’s at the expense of your sanity. You’re allowed to feel peace and contentment along the way.”

Sunnier Release New Indie Punk Track, ‘I Call Him Gamblore’

Leeds-based newcomers SUNLINER have released new indie punk track ‘I Call Him Gamblore’, via Lockjaw Records, alongside a music video that takes a dig at corrupt corporations.

The track is about “struggling to adjust after education to the crushing realisation of the bleak job market. Nobody when they’re asked growing up what they’d like to be when they get older says, ‘I’d like to work for Amazon’ (Amazon being just an arbitrary example of a Big Corporate Conglomerate Who Care Little For Their Staff TM) and the harsh reality of it is that so many people have to compromise, not because they want to, because they’re left no choice, and only the lucky few get to do something even slightly relevant to their interests,” says vocalist Jake. “It’s not a fun lesson to learn,” he adds.

The accompanying music video, which was filmed at local Leeds venue BOOM, shows the band as a batch of workers running themselves into the ground to inevitably be replaced by new flesh. Furthermore, the title of the new track is a quote from an episode of The Simpsons which sees Homer tell Lisa about her mother’s gambling addiction, “The only monster here is the gambling monster who has enslaved your mother. I call him Gamblore”.

Vukovi Announce New Record, ‘NULA’

Two years on from their critically lauded second album ‘Fall Better’ , Scottish 2 piece VUKOVI return with a record that is undoubtably the best distillation of their unique musical vision yet, brand new album ‘NULA’, which will be released on October 7th, 2022 through LAB Records.

Now a two piece, vocalist Janine and guitarist Hamish are VUKOVI, and have spent these strange two years gone plotting in their Glasgow base. Like any artist who’s toiled over their work, Janine is keen for the record to tell its own story. And yet excitingly, they are planning a Graphic Novella supplement to the record down the line. Janine worked on the framework for ‘NULA’ with the Scottish based scientist and young adult fiction writer L.Gourley. “It was important to me that the science made sense,” says Janine, “and that I worked with a woman, and that she was someone I could get pissed with.” ‘NULA’ is, as vocalist Janine explains ‘A concept record’, which charts the journey of this character (called Nula) in a distant, far off, Sci-fi world. “Growing up I was obsessed with the likes of Akira, Batman: The Animated Series, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, The Alien franchise, Star Wars, all massive influences of mine and one of the reasons I wanted to do a graphic novella.”

As well as being sonically ambitious, the album is incredibly, lyrically mature and astute, with the anthemic synthetic pop of the excellent ‘SLO’, which deals with singer Janine’s diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. “It’s almost like a love letter to something I hate, something that’s caused me so much suffering. But it’s also me wondering if I would cease to exist if it was removed from me. Or the heavy and heady rush of ‘I Exist’, which sees Janine push through the pain of mental illness and realise that she is worthy of life and deserving of joy. “I’m really interested in exploring the idea of joy,” says the singer. “I’ve had enough misery in my life. There’s a song I really like early on in the record called ‘Quench’, which is about sexual liberation from a woman’s perspective, which I don’t think we hear about enough.”
