Abbie Ozard Releases New EP, ‘Water Based Lullabies’

Manchester’s Abbie Ozard releases new EP ‘Water Based Lullabies’ today via House Anxiety(Genesis Owusu, carpetgarden, Bad Boy Chiller Crew; formerly King Krule, Courtney Barnett, Vagabon). It’s an eclectic, invigorating 7-track collection that establishes Abbie as one of the buzziest rising stars in the UK right now.

Throughout the EP Abbie experiments with her distinct, characterful indie-pop sound. Downtempo single ‘Grown’ set the foundations for an evolution in approach, born out of Abbie’s own personal and musical development, and anthemic singles ‘Pisces’ and ‘Rose Tinted’ take things to explosive new levels. Moving beyond bedroom origins, listeners can trace elements inspired by the likes Phoebe BridgersWolf Alice or Folklore/Evermore without losing her ear for a life-affirming hook. “I love that no two of my singles are sounding the same in this era,” Abbie explains, “The last thing I want to be is predictable. I feel like genre isn’t really a thing anymore and when I remind myself of that I feel like I can express myself creatively and have the freedom to make whatever music I want.”

The ‘Water Based Lullabies’ EP is now via House Anxiety, available on all platforms, plus on limited edition 12-inch vinyl with exclusive fanzine bundle available to order now via the following link and check out the EP, ‘Water Based Lullabies’ via your preferred streaming service.

Abbie Ozard Releases New Track, ‘Rose Tinted’

Manchester based Abbie Ozard has released a new single ‘Rose Tinted’, the final preview of new EP ‘Water Based Lullabies’, out July 1st via House Anxiety.

Talking about the song, Abbie says:

“Rose tinted was a poem I wrote a few years back when I realised all my friends were growing up and I felt kinda left behind. I found myself covering up these feelings with clothes and messing with the way I looked. I even tried meditating, which I hated because it made me think way too much. It’s an observation on how 20 somethings cope with transitioning into adulthood, how they share their morning routines online, meditate to stay calm, buy new outfits – that whole ‘don’t get depression vibe’. I want to be able to soundtrack my generation.”

Through her new EP Abbie is experimenting with her sound. Downtempo single ‘Grown’ set the foundations for an evolution in approach, born out of Abbie’s own personal and musical development, and follow-up ‘Pisces’ coloured this in. Moving beyond bedroom-pop origins, she’s added contemplative elements inspired by Phoebe BridgersWolf Alice or Folklore/Evermorewithout losing her ear for a life-affirming hook. “I love that no two of my singles are sounding the same in this era,” Abbie explains, “The last thing I want to be is predictable. I feel like genre isn’t really a thing anymore and when I remind myself of that I feel like I can express myself creatively and have the freedom to make whatever music I want.”

The ‘Water Based Lullabies’ EP is out July 1st via House Anxiety.

Abbie Ozard Shares New Track, ‘Pisces’

Manchester’s Abbie Ozard announces new EP ‘Water Based Lullabies’ for July 1st via House Anxiety.

Pisces’ is a woozy anthem for the fanciful – a wobbly indie-pop put-down concerning zodiac culture-clash. Delivered with pastel insouciance by Abbie Ozard, it’s an apt emblem for the aquatic theme of the upcoming ‘Water Based Lullabies’ EP. The track showcases the lighter side of the EP’s sentiments – which overall touches on growth, family, and introspection.

Talking about the song, Abbie says:

“After releasing songs about yearning, loss and change I was set on creating a bad bitch anthem that girls, gays, theys and everyone inbetween could feel empowered by. Pisces is about recognising your own strengths, taking control of what you really want and setting your standards high. This song was so fun to write, me and James were in stitches when we were writing it but behind the humour there’s a deeper meaning to it all. Don’t settle for mediocrity, know your worth and surround yourself with people that make you feel amazing.”

Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens have consistently backed across BBC Radio 1, with Abbie McCarthy and Chris Hawkins offering spins at BBC 6 Music.

The ‘Water Based Lullabies’ EP is out July 1st via House Anxiety – preceded by ‘Pisces’, out now.
