Bring Me The Horizon are continuing their inside look at their ‘Post Human: Survival Horror EP’, with the latest behind the scenes video going in on the closing track of the EP, ‘One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death’ which features Amy Lee of Evanescence.
“One thing that was really cool about this process working back and forth with Oli [Sykes] was we both encouraged and pushed each other to sing and work kind of differently,” Amy says at the beginning of the video. “It started with the first time I laid my vocal down and sent it over, he encouraged me to sing certain parts of the song less; more about breath and less about power. That is challenging for me. I really like that style but it’s not my comfort zone – it’s easier for me to harness my voice when I just blast it.”
“I told her about it being kind of a love song between the planet and mankind and she absolutely loved the idea,” continues Oli, “and said it reminded her of what their kind of message they were working on for their new album. She wrote some lyrics for the last part that she said she didn’t like, and I was just like, ‘No, they’re fucking sick; they’re perfect.’ ”
Earlier this year, Evanescence announce that they would be finally releasing a brand new record into the world. That record is ‘The Bitter Truth’ where they would release it incrementally in 2020.
But just why is there no release date.
That’s because they’ve been writing and recording as the year has been going.
Despite Covid-19 as well as life getting in the way, they’re still making some progress with the record where vocalist Amy Lee speaks to SiriusXM in a new interview.
“We’re still ongoing. We don’t have a release date, but I like to look at it like it’s happening now.
“The idea behind this whole thing was always to go one song at a time, release it in real time with the fans while it’s still going on and it’s still fresh and live in the moment more.
“So, in my mind it is being released. This is part of it. We live in a new world where it’s not all about just dropping a big pile of music all at once. People don’t always consume music that way. I don’t.
“I still want to make an album, that’s a part of who we are and I think that’s important to our fans, so we’re doing that. We will drop the back half or whatever soon, but I don’t have a date because I never want to put a date down when I’m still writing. I don’t want to get to the end and say, ‘Eh anything. Just throw some words down’. I can’t do that. It has to be right. Sometimes it takes a minute.”
So we’re getting the new tracks literally as fresh as they come? Cool!
While working on new material for their upcoming record, Evanescence’s Amy Lee has recently appeared on the Raise Your Horn’s Livestream in order to perform with Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale.
They remotely joined on the We Are Hear series for a haunting duet of Halestorm’ track ‘Break In’ off the record, ‘The Strange Case Of”.
In addition to their performance, the two musicians caught up with each other on the idea of being unapologetically themes.
“I encourage my female peers, whether they’re musicians or not, to not pay any mind to people who don’t like them, or even those who do,” Lzzy said. “Someone might love me and another person might absolutely hate my guts, which they both have the right to do, but all that matters is what I think of me. Somebody could make a list of everything they want you to be and say, and you could be and say all those things, but that person still wouldn’t be happy. So you might as well just be yourself, unapologetically.”
