Bastille Release New Video For Latest Single, ‘Shut Off The Lights’

Bastille have unveiled the official video for their latest single “Shut Off The Lights”. In the feel-good video, which made its broadcast premiere on MTV Live and MTVU, people are disconnected from their devices, unplugged from their digital “innerverses”, and forced to reconnect IRL—resulting in an infectious office dance party celebrating the importance of human connection.

Dan Smith says, “We wanted to make something that reflected the euphoria and the fun of the song. The track is a moment of humanity, normality, and intimacy on the album, so a video celebrating small funny moments in the day seemed to make sense. Plus, it just makes us want to dance, so it seemed only right to get that in there too.”

Shut Off The Lights” is taken from Bastille’s upcoming fourth studio album Give Me The Future out next Friday, February 4th. The song has received widespread praise from BillboardClash MagazineDIYDorkEntertainment TonightNMERolling Stone UKV Magazine, and more, with Billboard proclaiming, “Bastille has not-so-quietly developed into one of the most consistent mainstream pop-rock acts working today, building their alternative-leaning songs around Dan Smith’s booming voice but shifting their focus often enough to avoid repetition,” and V Magazinedeclaring, “‘Shut Off the Lights’ might just be the highest they’ve ever gone.”

Bastille Announce New Record, ‘Give Me The Future’

Bastille have announced their wildly ambitious and brilliantly bold new album is set for release on February 4th, 2022.

Give Me The Future is a tribute to humanity in a tech age and reflects on the strangeness of living through times that can feel like science fiction. Exploring both the opportunities of new technology and the dark side of lives lived online, it’s as playful and fun as it is thought-provoking, as dystopian as it is dancefloor-friendly, and as electronic as Bastille have ever been.

Eerily, songwriter Dan Smith came up with the idea pre-pandemic. The album was already underway and the band on hiatus from touring when the world shut down, forcing interaction solely through screens.

Working on these songs in such an apocalyptic period, with everyone stuck at home, glued to screens, fed into the feeling that what is real and what is not has become pretty difficult to discern sometimes,” says Dan. “We’re in the age of deep fake, fake news and lying world leaders. But online, you can be anyone. What that does to our sense of self and to our relationships is huge and it’s fascinating.”
