Chvrches Release New Single, ‘Good Girls’

Glaswegian trio CHVRCHES have dropped a brand new single, ‘Good Girls’, the latest track to be taken from their soon-to-be-released fourth record, ‘Screen Violence’.

Lauren Mayberry (vocals) had the following to say.

“The opening line (killing your idols is a chore) was something I wrote after listening to some friends arguing about the present day implications of loving certain problematic male artists – I was struck by the lengths that people would go to in order to excuse their heroes and how that was so juxtaposed to my own experiences in the world. Women have to constantly justify their right to exist and negotiate for their own space. We’re told that Bad Things don’t happen to Good Girls. That if you curate yourself to fit the ideal – keep yourself small and safe and acceptable – you will be alright, and it’s just not fucking true.”

You can check out ‘Good Girls’ and its video below.

The band’s fourth record, ‘Screen Violence’ is set to be released on August 27th 2021 via Virgin EMI / Glassnote Records.

Pre-orders for the record are available via the label’s webstore.

Photographers Band Together Selling Prints To Raise Money For Black Lives Matter Organisations

This is why I love photographers. Over one hundred have teamed up together to raise money for the Black Lives Matter organisations.

Among the prints sold include artists such as Childish Gambino, Janelle Monae, Fever 333, Yungblud, Chvrches, Muna and more.

The profits made from the sales will be split between a number of organisations, of which include Black Lives Matter Global Network, National Bail Out, Know Your Rights Camp and BYP100. You can click on the following for the full list.

And you can see all the prints which are on sale here.

Chvrches Increase Security At Their Gigs After Rape & Death Threats From Chris Brown And Tyga Fans

Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches has revealed that their band requires a police presence at their shows after receiving Rape & Death threats from the supports of Chris Brown and Tyga.

Last Week, the Scottish Electro-Pop Trio said that they were “really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown,” having worked with him on their recent single, “Here With Me”.

“We are really upset, confused and disappointed by Marshmello’s choice to work with Tyga and Chris Brown,” said the band on social media. “We like and respect Mello as a person but working with people who are predators and abusers enables, excuses and ultimately tacitly endorses that behaviour. That is not something we can or will stand behind.”

Chris Brown did fire back at the band saying:

“These are the type of people I wish walked in front of a speeding bus full of mental patients,” he wrote. “Keep grovelling over you own insecurities and hatred. IM BLACK AND PROUD. AND I KNOW ITS HURTS THAT U GUYS ARE STRUGGLING WIT LIFE OR PEACE SO U ARE FORCED TO SEE MY SUCCESS. You aren’t even #2 (REMEMBER 2nd place only means YOU LOST FIRST! TA-TA. GOODDAY PEASANTS.”

Now, Mayberry has shared images of abusive messages she has since received, saying that the band have had to increase security at their shows as a result.

“I am not staying in my own home when we finish tour because the threats we have received have reached such a scale. We have to have the police at our shows now. If that’s what I deserve for saying mainstream music should be more morally conscious, then so be it. You’re right.”

Below are some off the messages Mayberry has received.

Now everyone is entitled to their opinion, but surely Chris Brown should be condemning these fans and their actions because this is not sending a positive message in the world of music. Music should be bringing people together, not separating us and its fans that send abusive messages such as this that damage people’s reputations and just show how destructive fanbases can be in today’s world of Social Media.

Music Video’s 10/10/18

And now I’m back for another instalment of a countdown of ten recent music video’s released into the world. And what fortune it happens on the tenth of the month as well! I do apologise that there wasn’t a countdown last week, I was playing catch up with some work for my University degree. I’m going through a few life transitions at the moment so the news might come a little infrequently at times.

And now the first band to kick off things are London Pop-Punkers Shaded. Their track ‘Tell Me’ is off their debut EP, ‘The Better Man In Me’ and their first offering since signing to Common Ground Records.

Next up are one of my favourite’s in the form of New Years Day. The video is off their 2018 EP; Diary Of A Creep, and the track in question? ‘Disgust Me’.

Keeping going with the weird and wonderful, this is Abandoned By Bears with a new track called ‘So Far Gone’.  Their upcoming release, Headstorm, is set to be released August 24th, later this month.

Now, Indian progressive metal group Skyharbor have become a part of a computer world in their video for ‘Dissent’. This is off their band’s soon to be released album, ‘Sunshine Dust’.

Going for a more Pop-y vibe right now and it comes in the form of Chvrches. This is what you get when you mix J-Pop singer Wednesday Campanella with the band.

Now we’ve been waiting on Hellogoodbye for a while now to release their first single from their upcoming record but now, we have a music video for it as well! This is also the title track for ‘S’Only Natural’ which will be released October 5th.

The Maine have posted recently that they are going to be holding a funeral for their record, Lovely Little Lonely but before that happens, we have their latest video for ‘Lonely’ to enjoy for our viewing pleasure.

With Trophy Eyes new record ‘The American Dream’ just been released, they band have managed to keep the hype up by sharing their latest video for ‘Friday Forever’

With the release of their latest record titled as ‘Ex Machina’, which is out now via UNFD, the band have released a video for ‘Catastrophe’

And lastly is You Me At Six. They’ve set their fandoms alright firstly with news of their next record, their new material and the announcement they’ll be playing their record ‘Take Off Your Colours’ in full this November. But now, here’s something new in the form of 3AM.

And that’s it for another week of music videos. Ten absolutely fantastic tracks right there but as a reminder, I’m in the midst of my university work so there might not be an edition of the list next week but we’ll see.

Music Video’s 25/05/18

Now you know what it’s time for! And it’s actually on time two weeks in a row! Now that my workload has been cut by my finishing my radio show; The Rock Show, I have a little more time for planning and everything else in my life, including this post. Now let’s get down to business, ten recent music videos.

As Chvrches get ready for the release of their new record, ‘Love Is Dead, they have dropped a video for their track, ‘Miracle’.

Aussie metalcore group Northlane are gearing up for this year’s Slam Dunk Festival in good style as they have dropped a video for ‘Hearmachine’. It’s a track about the human condition and will act as the final single from their third record, ‘Mesmer’.

A few weeks ago, up and comers to the Pop Punk scene, Woes dropped their new EP, ‘Self Help’ and with this video it’s lead single ‘HLB2’ shows the band acting as judges in a talent show, casting their votes against auditions from acts across the fields of singers, dancers and more!

We’re going to the metalcore group August Burns Red for the next video, and this track in question is off their eighth record, ‘Phantom Anthem’. The video is something eerie which sees the band performing in a number of rooms within an abandoned and derelict home. You have to see it to believe it. You can video ‘King Of Sorrow’ below.

This is one of my favourite bands at the moment. Melodic and fun post-hardcore newcomers Sink The Ship seem to be everywhere on the scene at the moment have just dropped their new record, ‘Persevere’. They’ve recently dropped a video for the track, ‘Out Of Here’, which is just another hit for them.

I do like a little bit of everything on these posts and I’ve observed recently that I haven’t been doing so. This next video comes to legendary group Napalm Death. Their track ‘Standardization’ is taken from the band’s recently released rarities compilation record, ‘Coded Smears And More Uncommon Slurs’ which is made up of several lesser known cuts dating from 2004 to 2016. It’s one track which is typically fast-paced, relentless and best of all, critical of modern society.

Now, for the next video’s we’ll go to another legendary band in the Grunge genre.  This is of course, Alice In Chains as they have debuted a new video to accompany their new track, ‘The One You Know’. This is their first fresh material since their 2013 record, ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ so let’s see what we’re working with.

Earlier this year, The Used has to reschedule their tour due to a family emergency. That tour is coming in August but before then, the band have dropped a highly cinematic video for their track, ‘The Nexus’. It’s off the band’s latest record, ‘The Canyon’ and is full of creepy costumes mixed with some startling visuals.

Next, is American Pop-Punkers turned folk duo; This Wild Life. Now the pair have been teasing new material for quite a while and have a new video for us! It’s taken off their upcoming release, ‘Petaluma’, which is released on June 22nd 2018. This is ‘Westside’.

Now the best for last. Jonathan David is ready for his solo debut record but before any of that happens, he has dropped a video which sees the vocalist being held captive and being tortured whilst in an insane asylum which acts as part of a story that is set alongside his previous releases in ‘Everyone’ and ‘What It Is’.

And that’s it for another week! Tune in to the new music video list next Friday to see if it is kept up for three consective weeks again. (I’ll try my best to do so).

Music Video’s 18/05/18

Now I know I missed last week! I’ve been a little overwhelmed as of late but there is a list this week! But enough of me chatting away, here are my picks for recent music videos!

First up is August Burns Red. They’ve dropped a creepy new video for ‘King Of Sorrow’ but it is really amazing!

Now, Against The Current have recently announced a new era and with a new era comes new music… and new music videos. Check out the new era in Strangers Again.

Ahead of their upcoming visit to the UK next month, German rockers Alazka have released a video to accompany, ‘Everglow’, the latest cut from their debut record, ‘Phoenix’.

Next, New York deathcore group Emmure showcase a quite gruesome killing spree in their new video for ‘Ice Man Confessions’. The track was inspired by Richard Kuklinski, who’s most known as the Ice Man Killer whom frontman Frankie Palmeri plays.

Ahead of the release of their new record, ‘Reverence’ Aussie Hard-hitters Parkway Drive have dropped a new video for their track ‘Prey’. This is is the third single the band have released prior to their new record.

Like Moths To Flames are proving to be one’s to watch at the moment as the band have lifted a new video for ‘Empty The Same, the latest track from ‘Dark Divine’.

Moving to Sussex. The trio known as Gloo have revealed a new video off their debut record, ‘A Pathetic Youth’. This is the video for Holiday.

Palm Reader are another band to be watching and for good reason. Everyone is loving their dark, dreamlike tracks and now they have a new video which goes alongside that criteria. It’s taken off their third studio record, ‘Braille’ via Silent Cult Records.

As Chvrches get ready for the official release of their new record, Love Is Dead, they have now released a video for ‘Miracle’.

Lastly on the new video list is Varials. They’re coming off the back of the band’s record and the fantastic track for the last pick of this week is Empire of Dirt. It’s from their record, ‘Pain Again’ which was released via Fearless Records and you just have to watch it. I mean it.
