Greta Van Fleet, While She Sleeps, Holding Absence And The Offspring Records Hit The UK Top 100 Albums

We have a massive congratulations in order for four bands today!

Starting off with Holding Absence, their debut record, ‘The Greatest Mistake Of My Life’ debuted at number 90 in the charts.

Now the only reason they’re not higher in the charts is because of Brexit. The band revealed that their UK exclusive vinyl would NOT count towards the final chart placing which haven’t shipped yet. Damn that sucks!

But nevertheless, the record did make it to Number 1 on the iTunes UK Rock albums and 3 on the iTunes UK Albums as well as number 6 on the UK rock Albums as well as number 4 on the independent albums chart.

Hello everyone,

Since we released ‘The Greatest Mistake Of My Life’ one week ago, we’ve been both humbled and grateful for the incredible response from you all. It really has meant the world.

This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster of emotions, from the high of entering the UK Top 40 charts on Monday, to learning on Wednesday that Brexit-related delays would mean our UK exclusive vinyl would NOT count towards the final chart placing, to the high of you guys reacting to this news by supporting us on digital platforms and getting the album to it’s final iTunes placing of Number 3 overall, and Number 1 on the iTunes Rock Charts!! Incredible is an understatement, and we thank you all so very much.

Even though the loss our vinyl sales was too much to claw back a Top 40 Chart Position (we still got our first Top 100 album though, going in at 90 ) we still somehow managed to still place at Number 6 in the UK Rock Charts, and Number 4 in the UK Independent Charts (and even cassettes at number 13 haha). Oh, and not forgetting Scotland – thanks for somehow getting us Top 20!

Oh, and you guys streamed it over 3.5 million times, which is really mind-blowing.

Anyway, the main thing is – rather than be bitter about something that was out of anyone’s control, we’re just overwhelmingly proud and grateful to have achieved so much already with this album, most of all in receiving the love and appreciation from you all that we have, from all over the planet. It’s been incredibly rewarding for us, and this is just the beginning.

Thank you so much, once again. You Are Everything.

Next up are Sheffield metallers While She Sleeps. Last week, the band released their fifth record, ‘Sleeps Society’ but earlier in the week people saw that the new record wouldn’t be ‘chart eligible.

This was because they sacrificed any opportunity for ‘Sleeps Society’ to chart in order to pay their road crew!

Whilst being off the road and helping their tour due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the band were unable to pay their employed crew that way so the band have opted to employ them to aid with the independent physical distribution of the record. Usually an accredited distributor is utilised to report the sales data to charting organisations.

“At the beginning of this album we made the decision to independently distribute the vinyl & CD copies of it. This enabled us to rehire our touring crew, support our local business and give opportunities directly to the people around us who needed it, in a year where our industry & culture had been hit hard. This decision meant our sales would not be counted as ‘chart eligible’.

We started the Sleeps Society to create a sustainable future for our band, the people around us, our crew, families and collectively this felt more important.

The reaction to the album so far has been completely incredible & although our sales figures aren’t being counted as ‘official’, we are so proud to tell you that ‘unofficially’ we are no. 4 in the UK album charts today.

This would be our highest ever chart position. Your sales directly support our band, crew & the future of Sleeps. Thank you all so much.”

Absolute legends!

In any case, the record did end up charting in the top 100 at number 59 but we all know officially they should have charted at number four!

Up next are the utterly fantastic Greta Van Fleet with ‘The Battle At Garden’s Gate’, a storming sound of rock symphony’s and a fantastic throwback with classic rock sprinkled throughout the record debuted at the number eight spot, which is an improvement over their 2018 release, ‘Anthem Of The Peaceful Army’ at number 12.

And lastly today, we have The Offspring. Their number three spot for ‘Let The Bad Times Roll’, their first record in nearly a decade has become their highest charting to date in the UK, which surpasses their 1998 release ‘Americana’ and peaked at number 10.

Greta Van Fleet Tease New Record With ‘Brown Bells’

Greta Van Fleet have teased their upcoming record with their latest single, ‘Broken Bells’

It’s the latest cut from ‘The Battle at Garden’s Gate’, due 16th April via Lava/Republic.

“Broken Bells is what the fetter of society does to impact a pure and innocent soul,” explains the band’s Sam Kiszka. “Our intention is to remove the obligation of generational synthetic expectations; break down these walls and not build new ones.”

Greta Van Fleet Release Video For ‘Heat Above’

Following the release of their latest track, ‘Heat Above’, quartet Greta Van Fleet have shared a video for the aforementioned track.

Greta Van Fleet Share New Single, Detail Upcoming Record

Ahead of the release of The Battle At Garden’s Gate in April, Greta Van Fleet have shared the album’s opening track, Heat Above.

Discussing the band’s new single, Sam Kiszka explains: ​“There’s plenty of love left in this world, even though it may not seem like it. And that’s what Heat Above is about, rising to the stars together.”

New Music Video Roundup 18/12/20

Hello everyone welcome back to the New Music Roundup! We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released Music Video They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week, originally formed in the foothills of Colorado by college friends Jarvis Anderson (lead vocals, production), Sam Martin (vocals, keyboards), and Simon Katz (guitar), the band moved to Los Angeles after dropping out of school. Luis Rosiles flew from Jarvis’ hometown of Chicago to join the band as their drummer, and LA local Michael Bucher joined as bassist.

The band paid its dues in the glitter and grime of seedy Hollywood nightclubs before being adopted by Hermosa Beach, a Los Angeles sea-side community with a strong punk rock heritage, which identified with their synth-heavy, sweaty and wildly packed shows.

Of the new single, Anderson explains, “Cooler is told from the perspective of a guy that is set on winning over a girl who rejected him in the past. I love how the throwback synths and guitars rise as his story gathers fun, frenetic momentum.”

The result is an absurdly epic and feel-good song that seems serendipitous to the band’s actual comeback. The single somehow finds a way of being equal parts soothing and exciting; healing and rambunctious. Those who are fans of their debut Hit “In This City” will find “Cooler” just as irresistible, with its veracious hooks, and genre-bending, disruptive appeal.

Moving forward this week, cleopatrick have shared a video for their swaggering new single, ‘Good Grief’.

The release marks the Canadian duo’s – Luke Gruntz (guitar/vocals) and Ian Fraser (drums) – first single from their debut album, due via Thirty Tigers in 2021.

“This song marks the beginning of a new era for our band,” says frontman Luke Gruntz. “‘GOOD GRIEF’ is the first single off what will be our debut album. It’s here to strike fear in the hearts of our enemies, while simultaneously throwing an arm around our friends, introducing them to the new sound we have spent the last year-and-whatever totally obsessing over.

“‘GOOD GRIEF’ was born in quarantine. I found myself spiritually and physically locked in the very basement I had been romanticizing so deeply on our early records. We were bummed to say the least, but after a few weeks of video games and dog walks, a silver-lining began to emerge. I started writing again, and found myself feeling more self-aware, vulnerable, hungry, and vengeful than ever before.”

Now for the number three pick, a band we just can’t get enough of recently and that is the Texan pop-rock trio Waterparks with their latest single, ‘Lowkey As Hell’.

It’s another video from the band to be directed by frontman Awsten Knight, who also had this to say about the track.

“The song is a recap of the last year or so. It really describes what’s been going on and who I am. When I’m on stage, I’m a forward-facing, extroverted presence. At the same time, I’m also the biggest hermit ever. I just like to stay in, ignore my phone a lot, and write. I’m naturally reserved in my day-to-day life. The juxtaposition of loud materialism versus private emotion in that opening line really encapsulates the feeling I wanted to get across in the rest of the song.”

Moving to a little bit of Ska Punk in this weeks list, we have an offering in the form of Orange County, CA 7-piece Bite Me Bambi where they’ve dropped an EP, the aptly titled ‘Hurry Up and Wait’ (fitting for the year of the Covid), a collection of the singles the band has released in 2020, plus an exclusive bonus track titled “This Love is Dead.”

“This collection of songs represents the origin of Bite Me Bambi. Essentially they were the first initial songs Tahlena and Brian wrote before and while the band was forming. We feel that this collection is a good representation of where the band was in 2019-2020 and as always we are happy to put them out so the fans can have all the singles in one EP.”- Bite Me Bambi

How’s two Ska Punk tracks sound? Now we have in the form of Californian heroes Goldfinger for ‘Wallflower’, the lead single to come from the band’s recently released full-length album, ‘Never Look Back’.

Discussing the video, frontman John Feldman had this to say.

“We had such a fun time making this video. I was stoked I was able to use my house in my backyard, so I barely had to travel! Hahaha! Caleb (Alvarez) did a fantastic job directing, we’re very excited for you all to see!”

Switching up genres right now, there’s the French metalcore troupe LANDMVRKS with ‘Lost In A Wave’, the latest track to come from their forthcoming similarly titled third album, ‘Lost In The Waves’.

Electronica anyone? After announcing the release of his second EP titled “Continued Survival”, the Italian-born musician and producer Souvlaki unveils another piece of this new work, which was preceded by the single “7LUNGS” (featuring Slim Gong) at the beginning of November.

“Isolation” features Deborah Grandi on vocals and is presented with a stop motion video directed by Souvlaki himself, along with Carlo Rodella and Nicola Nolli.

The musician comments: “This is the first song I started working on for this new EP, the one that set the whole songwriting process in motion. Deborah’s vocal lines were written almost on the spot, we found them when we first listened to the base in the practice room and they immediately seemed to work well in the song.

The lyrics match the story of the video, the central theme is people’s incommunicability, and the song title seems to sum it up quite well.
I have to admit that I struggled to finish the arrangements of “Isolation”, but I perceived its great potential right away and I didn’t want to set it aside. Thanks to Simone Piccinelli, who contributed to the production of the EP, I got to find the balance between all the elements in this song.

I am satisfied with the outcome and I hope listeners will appreciate it too; personally, I like the atmosphere it evokes, that slightly “retro” touch; it plays along within a mix between darkness and positive feelings.”

The EP “Continued Survival”, produced by Souvlaki and Simone Piccinelli at La Buca Recording Club and mastered at Woodpecker Mastering will contain 6 tracks, including the single “Isolation” and the previously released single “7LUNGS” and will be available on all main digital platforms starting January 15th.

Fresh from the announcement of their upcoming album The Battle At Garden’s Gate, Greta Van Fleet have just unveiled an incredibly huge new video for their latest single Age Of Machine.

The epic clip – which was in fact co-directed by Greta Van Fleet and Matthew Daniel Siskin – addresses ​“the rumbling beauty around us, but leaves the final significance to the viewer”, so you’re going to have to pay close attention (and possibly even take notes?!) to work out what it all means.

The band’s second studio album, ‘The Battle At Garden’s Gate’, is set for release on April 16th 2021 via Lava Records/Republic Records/EMI.

Time to smooth things out, at least for one video right now and that is with Cancer Bats. The band have an acoustic EP on the way, and have ‘Deathsmarch To A New Acoustic Beat’ in support of it.

This is a stripped down reworking of their song ‘Deathsmarch’, which comes from the band’s 2008 album, ‘Hail Destroyer’.

And lastly this week we have the side project of Will Gould of Creeper and Matt Reynolds of Skylar which can only be Creeper. The title? ‘Throat’.

Will explains: “Being that ‘Throat’ is a song about obsession, we thought it would be a cool idea to base the video for the song loosely around Stephen King’s book ‘Misery’.

“We once again brought in Olli Appleyard of Static Dress to make the film, but we changed a few details in the story to better fit SALEM. The key two being that it now takes place in a boudoir with padded walls, and that at the end of our story, everyone dies.”

Greta Van Fleet Announce New Record, Release New Track

Greta Van Fleet have announced their upcoming second record is complete.

Having moved from Michigan to Nashville, the hard hitting quartet spent some of their 2020 with Producer Greg Kurstin (Foo Fighters) working on their follow up to 2018’s ‘Anthem Of The Peaceful Army’. The first tracks: ‘Age Of Machine’ abd ‘My Way Soon’ was released earlier this year.

Set to be released on April 16th 2021 via Lava Records / Republic Records / EMI, the band are still to confirm the full track listing.

Music Video Roundup 16/10/20

Happy October everyone!! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week are the Australian trio chase Atlantic with the release of ‘Molly’ which is about the euphoric highs and the crashing lows of love.

“There comes a time in nearly everyone’s life where they have to make the difficult decision of whether to hold on to a deteriorating relationship, or let it go, even though it’s the thing they love most. Love, whether it be for another person or a chemical compound, is constantly an uphill battle. At the end of the day it’s up to us to decide whether or not that battle is truly one worth fighting. That being said; in some situations you just have to simply cut your losses and walk away. I hope we can still be friends.” States Chase Atlantic.

Moving to the band Bad Nerves, the video was produced by the bands own Bobby Nerves which is a cut from the bands self titled debut record, which is set to be released on 20th November 2020 via Killing Moon Records.

“While I was living in London I met so many different characters whenever I left the house,” says Bobby. “It was quite apparent how many people were struggling. I guess you see that in every city, but I wondered if the people who seem to have everything could do more to help those with nothing? I would wonder how many homeless people could fit in Buckingham Palace? Are the doors even open? 

“This track was really an observation of the disparity between the wealthy and the not so wealthy mixed with thoughts of escape and wanting to run away and see the world. London made me realise that I didn’t want to stay in one place for too long. The longer you stay somewhere, the more of a fishbowl it becomes… and there is definitely something fishy going on at Buckingham Palace.”

Next we have Void Inn. They’re a heavy hitting band formed in late 2010 over in Los Angeles, CA. Formed by members Jelena Vujanovic (vocals) and Sinisa Pejovic (guitar), who had at that time completed their studies at the prestigious Musicians Institute in Hollywood. The band’s sound is powered by fierce riffs (Ala Black Sabbath), odd meters, virtuoso guitar parts and a large range of unique vocal tones and a wide range of colors.

At the end of 2011 the band moved to Belgrade where they continue to work in addition to a large number of shows. In March 2019 the band had a huge privilege to share a stage with legendary Megadeth bass player David Ellefson in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The band is currently working on their second record “End this Game” which is due to be released in October ’20 but for now here is their amazing single and video in the form of ‘Stay Young’.

Now we head to the St. Louis for the Rap Rockers, Discrepancies with their latest cut in the form of “Crawling Back” which is off the bands record, ‘The Rise’, which is set to drop on October 23rd 2020.

Vocalist Antonio Metcalf says, “Crawling Back is extremely special to all of us for a few reasons. We all really dug deep to put this song together. Even our friend/producer Matthew Amelung, who is no longer with us, went the extra mile and layered his own vocals into this song and it really brings out the emotion.”

He adds, “This one is about being in love with someone so deeply while understanding you have to let them go. The fact that Matt was fighting and lost his battle with cancer during the process of creating this song/album, gives this song a whole new meaning for me personally. While creating our last album Matt became our unofficial 5th member and not so secret weapon. So, much like this song all we can do is be grateful for the time we had as we turn the page to the next chapter. We’ll hold on to the memories until we’re gone but the music will live forever.”

More heavy hitters now! This time it’s Bound In Video whom have recently shared a video for ‘Stigmata’, the latest track to be cut and lifted from their album ‘The Hand Of Violence’.

This is what the band had to say of the song.

“‘Stigmata’ is about taking a situation into your own hands on a person who has committed horrendous acts – the idea of vigilante justice flows through the song and represents not rolling over, or letting anyone else sort your own problems for you. Taking control of your own emotions and owning your own response to situations is so important to us, taking responsibility for your own actions.”

Now let’s switch this up a little with the up-and-coming pop-punk trio Who Saves The Hero? The band’s new track ‘Days’ is pretty astounding to say the least, shining a light in these difficult and different times.

This is what vocalist/guitarist Josh Frederick says on the track.

“‘Days’ embodies the daily struggles of being stuck in bad situation but no matter how many times you get knocked to the ground you pick yourself back up again.”

We’re going to a band currently hot on my radar next. They’re currently signed Rise Records where they released their new EP, ‘Silence’ recently and this is Bloodbath with the seizure inducing video for ‘Erase’.

On the release of the video, the band say:

“Collectively, this is our favourite song. We wanted the video to almost be a satire of some hyper-masculine behaviours. The song itself is a very expressive way of being bigger than someone in many different ways but feeling insecure still — regardless of these shallow ego buffs.”

Now, after a 5-year long hiatus, Maryland’s I, The Breather have returned with a new song called ‘Prey’, which is their first offering since their 2014 full-length, ‘Life Reaper’.

It’s worth noting, however, that the track and promo art has the name Breather against it, suggesting a potential name change, though this hasn’t been officially confirmed just yet.

As for the penultimate pick in the roundup this week, following the release of their record ‘Primeval’, Death Metallers Venom Prison have now shared a video for one track off that aforementioned record: ‘Slayer Of Holofernes’.

This is what the band says:

“‘Primeval’ is a collage of different releases that are interwoven with a reinterpretation of religious imagery and criticism. ‘Slayer of Holofernes’ follows that theme. The scene from the book of Judith, follows the protagonist’s character and actions as a challenge to the dominant patriarchal narrative within religious writings.

We wanted to create a connection between this powerful tale and the art that Eliran Kantor has created for ‘Primeval’ through the use of water, depicting Larissa [Stupar, vocals] in an ethereal way and through inflicting pain via various methods of water torture on the male character.”

And finally this week in the Music Video Roundup, we are ending with the quartet known as Greta Van Fleet. ‘My Way, Soon’, is the band’s first new offering of material in over a year.

Josh Kiszka (Vocals) comments on the track as well as its meaning.

“This song was inspired by what three years of touring did by opening so many doorways. This is my truth, how I feel about all of our travels, but I know it echoes the experiences and changes of perspectives for Jake, Sam, and Danny as well.”

Music Video Roundup 26/04/19

It’s 4PM on a Friday! This means it’s time for the music video roundup. If you’re new to either the blog or these music video roundup posts, this is how it works. Every week, I watch some of the best recently released music videos and compile them into a list for everyone’s viewing pleasure. They’re span across all the different genres, so expect something different for most of the tracks. Up first are the Michigan based metalcore group Famous Last Words, who’ve released ‘The Game’ which is off their upcoming EP, ‘Arizona’.

 

Next, we’ll switch things up for Greta Van Fleet, we’ve released a live video for ‘Highway Tune’. It’s a track which was their first single off their debut EP, Black Smoke Rising.

 

Moving to Coventry, we have Scream Blue Murder who’ve recently released a video for their anthem ‘Rock Bottom’ a track off their soon-to-be-released record where a character faces the tribulations of feel at rock bottom, with vocalist Aaron Bloomer walking in the streets as well.

 

Keeping in England for the next choice of band, we have metal newcomers Villainous who’re making waves up and down the country while giving a good impression from their self-titled EP last year and to top things off, they have a brand new video of ‘Obsolete’ which is off the aforementioned EP.

 

How about a masked duo for the next video? That sounds good, right? Well, the Bunny The Bear is something different for a lot of people but they’re definitely going to turn a few heads in their video for ‘Visions’ which you can view right below this.

 

It wasn’t until a few months ago that Alexisonfire released their titular comeback track ‘Familiar Drugs’ which was their first track in about nine years! Finally, there are some visuals to go with that track now as you can see right here.

 

Spanish Love Songs, the fantastic up and comers have been making some huge waves as of late. In the UK their upcoming short run of shows has two already sold out. Their debut record ‘Schmaltz’ was released last year but they’re already teasing the next chapter of the band as they’ve just signed with Pure Noise Records as well! Check out their track for ‘Losers’ below.

 

Following on from Danny Worsnop’s country vibes, his adventure is coming soon as his follow-up to ‘The Long Road Home’, ‘Shades Of Blue’ is going to be released next month! May 10th to be exact. Until then, he has an exciting new video in the form of ‘Best Bad Habit’ for all of us to enjoy.

 

Things have been moving the Post-Hardcore world of Acres. They’re nearing to the release date of their debut record ‘Lonely World’ but have a taste for what’s to come for everyone. And for those who want a taste of the live experience, the band will be supporting Casey on their final run of the UK and Europe. Check out ‘Talking In Your Sleep’ below.

 

And for the last video on the list, I always go for a favourite band but if I did that, Spanish Love Songs probably would’ve taken that spot. No, that’s not what I’ve done this week. I’ve gone for the most exciting and possibly confusing video for the last spot on the countdown. This is ‘Anxiety’ by Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes.

Greta Van Fleet Cancel UK Tour

In the wake of ongoing health issues with vocalist Josh Kiszka, Greta Van Fleet have taken cancelled their upcoming UK tour.

The band also recently postponed their Australian tour due to Josh suffering from and Upper Respiratory infection.

Posting a statement to their Facebook account, Greta Van Fleet said:

“We have some sincerely unfortunate news regarding our upcoming shows February 22 – March 17 and must announce a complete reschedule to this Fall.

“A year and a half of constant touring has been both invigorating and exhausting. Josh currently has a relentless upper respiratory infection that has not yet had the chance to heal. His doctor has required extended rest as the only path to full recovery. It now feels necessary for the entire band to recalibrate our balance, both physically and mentally. Rather than continuing on to more performances and exacerbate things further, we have made this decision in order to give you the full Greta Van Fleet experience when we meet again.”

The shows have been rescheduled for November-time, with exact dates for some shows still to be determined.

“All tickets for the upcoming shows in the next month will transfer to the rescheduled dates, there is no need to do anything other than hold on to your current ticket to attend the rescheduled show,” the statement continues.

“Refunds are available at point of purchase should you not be able to attend. We are heartbroken in sharing this setback with you and hope you can understand this painful decision. It will be extremely satisfying to reconcile this calamity by making the most of our time together in a healthier state.

“For the cities that have not been assigned a date yet, we are waiting on venue availability, but will have them confirmed and announced tomorrow. Every show missed will take place, that is a promise. We are tremendously grateful for your patience.”
