On July 21st, Janelle Dunnaway attended a show for the band Spite at the Roxy in Dever, Colorado.
She entered a mosh pit and was violently struck by another concert-goer. This resulted in multiple skull fractures, nasal fractures and the loss of several front teeth.
This is her statement.
“I spent the entire night in the ER, i still haven’t slept. I bled for 12 hours straight, FOUR teeth. I can’t close my mouth due to the one tooth that’s still there being knocked so far back. And the other one that’s there is chipped. They will probably both come out in time. One got lost in the venue. I caught one and they tried to stick it back in but it failed”
“I had my first round of surgery last night, there will be at least 3 more over the next 6 months. My skull is fractured in multiple places, up into my nose. There were pieces of bone scattered all over the place that I had to have drilled out. I had to have new gum tissue and bone grafted in over the entire area. They hammered the two teeth that are still in there into place and splinted them, but they are dead and will have to be removed later. I’ve never been in more pain in my life. The surgery was the most traumatic experience I’ve ever been through. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I have some temporary fake teeth so thank god I can at least leave my house now. It’s impossible for me to eat with the amount of pain I’m in right now…”
The vocalist of the band, Darius Tehrano since learning of the incident has shared his support.
If you would like to help with medical costs, Dunnaway has a GoFundMe page set to up to help. Here’s the link.
Ash Costello from New Years Day is having surgery after breaking her leg. Because of this turn of events, the band is having the US tour with Attila, Bad Omens and Cane Hill.
Ash wrote on Facebook: “As you may or may not know, I broke my foot a few hours before we left for tour last week,” she wrote on Facebook.
“Even in a cast I still wanted to play these shows. After my doctor check-up this morning, she showed me the bone in my right foot shifted, which will require surgery to fully fix.”
“I am truly devastated to be missing any shows, especially with how great the tour has been. Thank you for understanding, and I promise we have some amazing things in store for you this year.”
Hopefully, she’ll have a speedy recovery and be back to doing what she does best with the lads, playing music.
Vesta Collide will be joining the Attila tour as their replacements.
