Mae Krell Shares New Single, ‘Tooth Fairy’

New York-based singer and songwriter Mae Krell is back with her new single, “tooth fairy,” out on all streaming platforms today. “tooth fairy” is Mae’s first new single since the release of her acclaimed 4-track EP, ‘imposter syndrome,’ which was debuted earlier this year. The EP struck a chord with fans and tastemakers alike, with PRIDE aptly describing it as “an intimate and heart-wrenching dissection of the unavoidable self-doubt we all experience in our 20s.”

Her newest single, “tooth fairy,” is one of the previously unreleased tracks that came from the ‘imposter syndrome’ EP sessions. Beautiful, heart-wrenching and deeply introspective, “tooth fairy” is a song about coming to the realization that you may be better off without someone who you previously thought was indispensable. Mae elaborates: “I wrote it after I found out that someone who used to be my best friend moved to the city where I grew up. It felt like tearing open an old wound that I didn’t know I had, and also put me in a spot to question: if the chance were to arise, would I want to give them a second chance? That’s something I’m still trying to figure out.”

Mae Krell Releases New Single, ‘Phantom Limb’

New York-based singer-songwriter Mae Krell returns today with the release of their new single, “phantom limb.” Alongside the new single, Mae is also announcing a North American tour supporting Ethan Jewell.

“phantom limb” is an achingly beautiful listen. Atop melancholy piano and scintillating production, Mae poetically unfurls a heartbreaking tale of drug addiction and recovery: you’re still here like a phantom limb / an itch I can’t scratch / because I’ll tear up my skin / I know one is too much / but I’m always tempted / by the simple idea / that this time might be different”

People often expect me to be ‘healed’ now that I’m sober, not realizing that my disease will continue to trail behind me for the rest of my life,” Mae says. “‘phantom limb’ speaks to my recovery, and what it’s like to choose to carry something difficult with you instead of letting it go untreated.”

Mae Krell Releases New Single & Video For ‘Rest Stop’

New York-based singer-songwriter Mae Krell shares their new single “rest stop” and the accompanying lyric video. There is an undeniable emotional rawness to “rest stop.” Underscored by layered, lush instrumentation, Mae’s vocals bristle with palpable emotion as they come to terms with the loss of a friendship: “I’ve been much worse than this / am I not yours unless I’m sick? / was I better to be around / when you had to pull me out?”

Mae started to write the new single when their car broke down in the trucking area of a rest stop. They were feeling lost in life, both figuratively and literally. “I was sad and still processing a really painful friend breakup and just overall not in a great place,” Mae says. “In writing ‘rest stop,’ I was learning that sometimes getting healthier and becoming more independent can end in a loss of a relationship. And, as this specific friendship ended, I started to realize that maybe it wasn’t as good for me as I thought it was.”

For the accompanying music video, Mae hit the road with visual artist Caro Hallock to revisit the aforementioned rest stop. The video chronicles the journey back to where the song was first conceived through nostalgic and timeless road trip footage.

Following a two-year hiatus, Mae Krell returned in early 2020 ready to embark on a new musical era. With a newfound maturity and understanding, they have perfected their folk-pop sound and introspective lyrical chops. At just 22 years old, Mae exudes a musicality wise beyond their years. Influenced by revered singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Phoebe Bridgers, and Gregory Alan Isakov, their songs are intimate reflections that confront trauma, self-love, and personal truths. Their singles have amassed millions of streams to date, with last year’s singles “wash,” “home,” and “garden,” all individually breaking over 500K streams.

In addition to their artist career, Mae has worn many different hats in the music industry, photographing live music for Rolling Stone and Sony RCA, founding the online music publication Tongue Tied Magazineand, most recently, starting Bitch Mgmt, a multimedia marketing and PR company. With a multitude of career milestones already under their belt, Mae is taking it one day at a time and focusing on writing and recording songs that reach new emotional heights.
