Single Review – Against The Current – ‘Weapon’

Against The Current have shared a brand new single, ‘weapon’.

Chrissy Costanza (Vocals) explains, “‘weapon’ is about the invisible wars we wage within ourselves, where we are simultaneously the protagonist and the antagonist of our own story. I’ve spent so much time being my own worst enemy, as the weapon that destroys relationships I care about. This song is about that battle and the victory I strive for but always seem to fall short of. We wrote it in a time of darkness that existed both in the world around us but also in my own head. This song is a triumph over that darkness.’”

‘weapon’ follows on from last year’s standalone single ‘that won’t save us’ – the first release since their 2018’s ‘Past Lives’ album.

‘Weapon’ carries on from their previous single ‘that won’t save us’ into a heavier pop-rock direction and departure from the past lives record but gives us a massive release of pent up cathartic energy in an emotionally supercharged track which is a fantastic statement on overcoming someone’s own demons.

Sumo Cyco Release New Video For ‘No Surrender’

Canada based band Sumo Cyco have dropped a new video for their track, ‘No Surrender’, their latest track off their upcoming record, ‘Initiation’.

Skye “Sever” Sweetnam (Vocals) had this to say about it.

“‘No Surrender’ is about the struggle to be your authentic self, living your truth and battling inner demons. The music video depicts four characterized versions of myself representing different sides of my personality and how I see myself. They’re lurking in the darkness over my shoulder, always questioning each other’s decisions.

The song is written from the perspective of the voice or voices in my head. Telling me to run one moment and another to hold my ground and another to fight back. In between some epic rocking out with the band, I wanted the viewers to visualize the colorful juxtaposition that goes on in my mind.”

Butcher Babies Share video For ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’

Californian metal giants Butcher Babies have released a new video for their track, ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’, which is the latest single off their upcoming yet-to-be-announced record.

Vocalist Heidi Shepherd says on the track:.

“When face to face with what you presume as your enemy; who is it? Is it you? In ‘Sleeping With The Enemy’ the devil and angel on my shoulders met. This song is about hypocrisy and self realization. We can get so caught up in the rat race of life, as humans we tend to lose track of ourselves and our core values along the way.

There comes a point where you look at the perceived problems in your life and realize there is one common denominator; yourself! Whether it’s in the lens you look at life through or an overall attitude, there comes a point where we must turn a negative into a positive. This song is that for me.”

Normandie Share New Video For ‘Babylon’

There’s a new video in the Music Video sphere for Normandie.

The track is off their upcoming record, ‘Dark & Beautiful Secrets’, which is set to be released on 19th February via Easy Life Records.

Philip Strand (Vocals) says: “Babylon wasn’t supposed to happen. With the covid restrictions, it landed us more time to dive into the studio again and play around with new ideas. The song came purely from just having fun and playing around using breaths and coughs as instruments.

“I’ve been searching for my identity my entire life. Going from group to group, crowd to crowd, trying to fit in – finally, I realised that my true identity is something I should form myself.” “Are you following or falling out” is a line I wanted to use to express the way many of these groups behave. You’re either in or out. To me, identity is what you get when you mix all the things you identify with, bits and pieces that then become you as whole.”

New Music Video Roundup 13/11/20

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

Founded in 2003, WARFECT is one of the most convincing yet underrated acts in the Swedish metal scene. Straight from the Gothenburg underground, the three-piece carries their full potential to the next level with their fourth studio album Spectre of Devastation!

Fast screaming guitar tunes pave the way as brutal madness unfolds on “Into The Fray”. Swedish Thrash Metal War machine WARFECT pushes itself through spheres of pure heaviness directly into your core on their third single fresh off the new album, Spectre of Devastation, to be released this Friday, November 13!

WARFECT on ”Into The Fray”:
“The song “Into The Fray” is about the Russian submarine disaster when Kursk sank during a military training operation and the horrors the crew faced during this event. The music is not only fast but has also heavy mid-tempo sections – perfect for headbanging – and takes a more melodic turn coming into the chorus. Check it out!”

Next, we move to the the salty air for the Swedish sea dogs YE BANISHED PRIVATEERS whom are ready to trim your Christmas tree in the most chilling of ways! The collective just released their new holiday single, “Drawn And Quartered”, along with an official animated music video. 

Their new single is a rum-soaked harbinger of their upcoming 7inch, Drawn And Quartered, out on December 1, 2020 via Napalm Records – heralding in the jolliest season of the year in true swashbuckling manner, but with a ghoulish grin. Wrapped in the swag of pirate folk rock, the newly-interpreted, grim covers of two Christmas classics will draw the listener into a dark underworld of blood and bones. 

YE BANISHED PRIVATEERS on the new single:
“In YE BANISHED PRIVATEERS, for the last decade we have had a yearly tradition of defiling a Christmas classic. It started as an internal joke, never intended for an audience outside of the band. Now here we are today, releasing our 2020 annual adaptation on a metal label, haha! This year, it is the traditional carol “Hosanna in Excelsis (Ding Dong Merrily on High)” that has been dragged to the chopping block to be hung, drawn and quartered beyond recognition. We doubt that we will hear this version being sung by your average christmas choir anytime soon though.” 

Now for something a little more fresh. The seeds of In Parallel were planted late at night almost 5+ years ago in the back room of a picture frame shop. With nothing more than a looped electronic drum sample and a few guitars, the first notes became the framework of the song “Bridge and Tunnel.” This particular song and its lyric “walk through waves and wade where others won’t – choose your words, say what others don’t” became a mission statement of sorts – a musical rebirth for its four members.

It took multiple recordings for the band to get all the sounds on their debut EP ‘Broken Codes’ correct – so much so that they scrapped the first two versions entirely. The band was inspired by their love of dark 80’s pop and 90’s shoegaze and post-hardcore – creating a sound that aims to balance contrastingly melodic, expansive and ambient moments.

In Parallel consists of Lance Black, Jesse Fine, Ryan Parrish and Mark Nash. The band recorded the EP in Nashville with the help of their most devoted fans from previous projects (Celebrity/Hopesfall) through a crowdfunding campaign. Bypassing the traditional structure of the music industry gave the three-piece group the freedom to lean into technology, ultimately treading new territory both sonically and lyrically.

Moving to the Ukraine’s for their busiest groove metal machine in the form of  JINJER with their brand new single “Retrospection (Live)”, taken from their upcoming live album: Alive In Melbourne, which will be released on November 20, 2020 via Napalm Records. The live album and subsequent videos were filmed on March 5th this year during their debut Australian tour with the pandemic hot on the heels of their Macro World Tour, which would sadly, along with the rest of the musical landscape come to a screeching halt a week after the Melbourne set was captured for on film. Still, with JINJER’s sheer will, drive, determination and never give up attitude they were able to turn the madness of this year into a positive.

Bassist Eugene Abdukhanov comments: It‘s still pretty incredible that 4 Ukrainians travelled 14,770 km just to sing in their native language … to the welcoming ears, eyes and open arms of Melbourne. This night will forever be burned in our hearts and the beat of “Retrospection” fit that night like never before. Shows like this should happen each time we perform and we cannot wait to get back on tour to make sure that happens every night. Until then just enjoy this moment in time called Alive In Melbourne

Despite the Global Pandemic, JINJER have managed to stay busier than before and besides releasing their debut live album, they toured Germany and Switzerland in September becoming the first non-European band to tour across borders during the age of Covid-19 and they are also currently filming videos for all remaining tracks on their previously released album Macro.

Now I think we need an Aussie band right now.  How about a little bit of Bad/Love mixed with a bit of Crossfaith?

Social Suicide is a retort on how media influences society in an age where people are experiencing life through their phones.  “Young women are chasing an unachievable photoshop appearance in order to feel accepted while boys are taught that they must not show emotion and should mistreat others to feel important.” says Landon Kirk.  He continues “Social media & marketing influences every step we take and we march blindly without free thought. We are losing what makes us human and are trading it in for a cheap artificial quick fix.  Social Suicide is an anthem to make people aware of the affect technology, media and social influence is having on the human condition and to be reminded to step away and find free thought once more.”

“This song is a critical message to the generation of Social media. I’ve been doubting whether it is really important for our lives. It is helpful BUT I also think that we shouldn’t be addicted to social media platforms because sometimes it’s wasting our time. I’d rather face myself and get self evolution than become a slave of Social media. Conservation or Revolution, go pick one!” Ken Crossfaith

Moving on in this weeks roundup, She is considered a vocalist of many genres including Jazz, Blues, Pop, Fusion, and Opera. Gabriella Metz is also a composer and arranger of both Classical and Jazz music.

She had completed all academic levels of her music studies and had also earned her Vocal Performance Diploma from the renowned London College of Music, and had been accepted at the prestigious Berklee College of Music for her Professional Music Bachelor’s Degree studies.

Her pop/rock ballad debut EP “Breaking Infinity” was released on May 3rd 2019 on all social platforms.

Now, set your sails for an intoxicating symphonic reverie backed by the marvelously talented Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Prague! Let’s move to DRONES next. This band are finally back with their first single since the release of their highly conceptual album ‘Exiled’, which was out in 2018. ‘Josephine’ is a deeply personal journey into vocalist Lois McDougall’s past unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

“Growing up in Britain with its normalised binge-drinking culture, I never thought much about the fact I was relying on alcohol to feel relaxed and to have fun,” she says. “It wasn’t until recently that I was forced to tear myself away from it and realised how badly alcohol had been affecting me and my relationships. I wasn’t in control and was abusing myself with alcohol to try and suppress my depression. People started referring to the intoxicated me as ‘Josephine’. At first this was funny. Josephine was a clown. But there’s nothing funny about self-abuse. This song is about me realising that. Alcohol can be great, but if you don’t feel like you can say no to it, it’s time for a change.”

The accompanying music video for the hard-hitting single is an out-of-this-world claymation that features intricate models of each band member, crafted by animator William Davies, embarking on a journey to another world. The band have also enabled a virtual situation where you can walk around the Planet Josephine that appears in the video. You can login, chat with other fans and walk your characters around the environment on Topia.

The London-based band have been building a name for themselves with their powerful, high octane live shows and unique punk-fueled post-hardcore stylings. From playing underground squats to appearing on festival stages, Drones are more than ready to hit the road again when the current climate allows. The band have already supported the likes of Marmozets, Neck Deep, Gallows, Funeral For A Friend, Mallory Knox, Young Guns and H2O, as well as playing Download festival and packing out their own headline shows.

Time for a left field choice and a breakaway from what we’ve had this week on the music video roundup. This is Nothing, Nowhere.

Made in collaboration with KennyHoopla and JUDGE, the single is the latest in a line of standalone tracks nn has dropped this year, including ‘pretend’ and ‘lights 4444’. The Mason Mercer-directed music video features Kenny and nn “on a covert mission into the depths of an illicit black market.”

On the track, nothing,nowhere. said “‘blood’ is about being a metaphorical killer; killing relationships with people you care about and getting caught in that toxic cycle. I recorded the song with JUDGE and Kenny in 20 minutes. I shot the video with Kenny in Boston and we got to hang out with a bunch of rescue animals. It was a beautiful experience to be able to combine my love of animals, film and music into one shoot.”

Now, we have a belter of a track for you from some absolute legends in Rock.

After announcing the details of their new album ‘Medicine At Midnight’ at the weekend, Foo Fighters have now released a visual for lead single ‘Shame Shame’.

Where the song is a slow burning and atmospherically gripping slice of rock, the video is much darker. Full of interpretive dance and striking visuals, we see Dave Grohl struggling his way through a landscape before falling into oblivion. 

This video is thought provoking to say the least but accompanied with the music, it’s one piece you can’t miss.

New Music Video Roundup 09/10/20

Happy October everyone!! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First on this weeks list are the French Metalcore troupe Landmvrks with their first material since their 2018 record, ‘Fantasy’.

Touché Amoré have a new cut in the form of ‘Reminders’.

It’s a cut from the band’s fifth album ‘Lament’, due on 9th October, with the clip featuring a bunch of surprise guests (and their owners).

“The track was born out of the overwhelming anxiety that came from the controversial end result of Trump’s impeachment trial,” a press release explains, with vocalist Jeremy Bolm expanding: “I think when we are all panicking, we need to have those reminders that there’s love out there for us whether we believe it or not and that’s all that we can really trust to save us.”

Next we have the Canadian band Seaway, have released a new video for ‘Still Blue’ taken from the forthcoming new album Big Vibe, a guitar-driven collection of songs with big hooks and a bigger attitude. Big Vibe is set to be released on October 16th via Pure Noise Records.

’Still Blue’ has been a favourite of mine from the record since we started it. It evolved a lot in the studio but each time got better and better,” recalls vocalist Ryan Locke. “It’s about investing yourself into something so heavily and not always seeing that energy returned or reciprocated. That feeling can obviously come in many forms.

He continues: “We let our close friend and long time collaborator Miguel and DP Christoph Benfey really run with the visuals on this one. The concept is a happy fun drug trip and the different paths it can take but the guys really put their own spin on it with camera and editing technique. Have a safe trip!”

Moving to a different genre to what’s come to known right now is the Ska Punk genre.

Less Than Jake recently accounced the details of their upcoming ‘Silver Linings’ record which is their first full length release in over seven years. It’s set to be released December 11th 2020 via Pure Noise Records.

‘Lie To Me’ is the first offering of what to expect off the record.

We’re off to Hertfordshire for the next band in thsi weeks roundup with Alt Rock band Redwood. ‘Rumour Night’ is off their upcoming debut record, ‘Beside A Shallow Sun’.

Alex Birchall (Vocals / Guitar) says:

“When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I use an exercise where I write down everything that I’m feeling, without judgement or worry that anyone else will read it. It is a stream of consciousness that can be about anything. I’ll come back to it a few weeks later, and it’s where I get most of my inspiration. This process helped to create the foundation of ‘Rumour Night’. The song is about how growing up with mental illness can be a scary prospect and trying not to give up too much of yourself to the world when you don’t feel you have the mental fortitude to keep up. At one point at University, everything felt like it got too much, I stayed up for two nights in a row writing to get the thoughts out of my head. It helped me process the idea of wanting to be at peace with all of the chaos and anxiety in my head, rather than trying to fight it.”

Back in July, the hard rock five piece Bad Wolves released a video for ‘Learn To Walk Again’, which is taken off their second record, ‘N.A.T.I.O.N.’ out now via Better Noise Music.

The band released a lyric video for the track back in July which will also feature on the soundtrack for the upcoming horror – thriller film, The Retaliators.

Time for a little Welsh in this roundup. Cardiff based Panic Shack’s latest drop follows on from ‘Who’s Got My Lighter?’ and ‘Jiu Jits-You’, both released earlier this year.

“We wrote ‘I Don’t Really Like It’ as a song that could be about anyone and everyone,” they explain. “This single is a bit of a change in direction for us. It’s literally 4 lines but it makes an impact.

“Most may assume it’s directed at men from a woman’s perspective (I mean a LOT of our songs are) but who it’s actually about is a secret. Basically this song is for anyone who has felt spoken down to, patronised or ‘mansplained’ to… You get the picture.

“It was recorded at Rat Trap Studios with Tom [from Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard] the week before lockdown… unbeknown to us that would be the only time we get to perform the song for the foreseeable.”

Switching things up to a live video in Jinjers realm of offerings this week for ‘Sit Stay Roll Over which is off their upcoming ‘Alive In Melbourne’ Live record.

The band comments: “For some, “Sit Stay Roll Over” was the so-called ignition point where lots of fans first took notice of Jinjer – and it‘s still a burner today even though it sometimes gets lost between all our other tracks! It’s also one of the most technically complicated and extreme songs we’ve ever written, taking the band to the outer realms of death metal … Even after all these years of performing it countless times it still takes quite a lot of effort and concentration to play flawlessly live. We‘re pretty excited to have it put back to the forefront again on our upcoming live album!”

And the penultimate track comes from the Californian quartet Lowlives with their latest single ‘Gravity’, which the band directed, filmed, and edited themselves.

“Being a DIY band and always needing favors we figured we’d give our poor friends a break this time around.

Soooooo… here you go, our first ever fully written, directed and edited music video. It’s all shot on two budget Go-Pros with me as cameraman and Lee as the subject. The location was up in the mountains near Big Bear California. We used bits of drum gear and old microphone stands to clip cameras in creative places. We probably ran and rode about 25 miles that day.

The concept is basically a dumbed down Ground Hog day that follows the theme of the song. A love and attraction to another that feels like a gravitational pull so powerful it can move heaven and earth. Lee is caught in a loop trying to get back to his beloved wife but keeps waking up back in the forest. Bonus points to anyone who can see where I left the ladder in shot.”

And lastly this week, we have a band who are in everyone’s minds, the up and coming and ever impressive Wargasm.

The band recently dropped their fifth single, ‘Backyard Bastards’ and now here’s the stunning video to go with it.

Shot and edited by Olli Appleyard, the video sees sees Sam Matlock (guitar, vocals) hunting down Ryan Cornall (session drummer) on a manic murder spree that finds its peak in an epic showdown between the two, all the while being cheered on by Milkie Way (bass, vocals) and her dancer squad.

New Music Video Roundup 02/10/20

First up this week is Hyro The Hero (Formally known as Hyro Da Hero) the Rock and Hip Hop artist.

The track, ‘We Believe Feat. David Draiman (of Disturbed)’ is the start of a brand new record cycle will feature on his upcoming yet to be announced effort which is a follow up to his 2018 record, ‘Flagged Channel’.

Time for a cover.

A couple of months ago, Nekrogoblikon released a version of System Of A Down‘s hit ‘Chop Suey!’, and now they have a video to go with it.

This is what the band had to say about it.

“Today marks the 84-day anniversary of the release of our cover of System Of A Down’s ‘Chop Suey!’ so to celebrate here’s a very serious and politically charged video of Nicky and John making chop suey in a kitchen.”

Next up are the Dallas, Texas death metal newcomers Frozen Soul have released their debut single, ‘Crypt Of Ice’, and it comes with an accompanying video too.

Here’s what the band had to say about it.

“This year has been a nightmare fuelled fire and we’re ready to bring in the cold front and finally show everyone the the record we’ve created! ‘Crypt Of Ice’ is everything we could have hoped for and we are really proud of how it’s turned out, we can’t wait for everyone to freeze while listening to it!”

Lande Hekt is set to release her debut album ‘Going to Hell’ via Queer-run independent label Get Better Records on 22 January 2021. This record represents a time when Hekt was coming out as gay.

 “I’m no stranger to queer punk and queer politics,” she says. “I’ve always taken a special interest for obvious reasons, but this record is important to me because it’s the first time I’m releasing anything as an outwardly gay person.” 

‘Going to Hell’ was recorded by Hekt’s friend Ben David (from the band The Hard Aches) in the Adelaide Hills in Australia, whilst she was over there for a solo tour with him in February, luckily  fitting in the recording and flying home before lockdown kicked in. The intense experience saw Hekt laying down all instruments on the album, with the exception of percussion.

‘Whiskey’, the first single from ‘Going to Hell’ is out now and is representative of the album’s mood. “This song is essentially about how there were so many things that didn’t feel right in my life,” says Hekt. “It’s about learning how to come to terms with being gay or, more accurately, realising that pretending you’re not gay can’t go on forever.”

Coming out is a prevalent topic throughout the record with the title track itself being “about how homophobia and heteronormative culture can make you feel isolated and scared of being yourself,” as Hekt herself explains her thoughts and feelings surrounding her sexuality, continuing: “I internalised a lot of that culture for a long time and it wasn’t until I found myself surrounded by queer and trans people and friends, that I realised I could live happily in a way that felt right. I know I’m not alone in feeling like this and it was other people sharing their experiences with me that helped me out, so I named the album after this song to try and reach people who might want to be reached. It’s also not a dig on all Catholics; it’s just an expression of scepticism from a gay person regarding conservatism.”

‘Going to Hell’ sounds like the sum of Hekt’s wide-ranging influences – The Replacements, The Raincoats, Sharon Van Etten, The Slits, Patti Smith, Sacred Paws, Le Tigre, Against Me! – multiplied by her own distinct voice.

Moving to Jamie Lenman for our next pick whom released this video for ‘Like Me Better off his new mini-album ‘King Of Clubs’ just before its release last Friday.

Speaking on the track, Lenman had this to say.

“‘Like Me Better’ was one of the tracks I added to the album when I decided I wanted to make something with a bit more depth than an EP. I had to go against my instincts and trust the strength of the song in order to not fuss it up or make it more complex than it needed to be – just three chords and a slow beat. I ended up whacking a big riff at the end of it cos I love big riffs but otherwise it’s a very simple tune, and probably better for it.

Lyrically it’s about things that repulse you at first but later you come to appreciate. This could apply to food or music or anything that provokes a strong reaction but in this instance it’s definitely about people and physical attraction. When people talk about having a secret crush, it’s usually about someone who looks a bit odd but nevertheless has a certain something about them. The whole record is about complex, contradictory and potentially uncomfortable feelings so it fits right in.”

Let’s change the style up a touch. The Driver Era have released their new single, ‘Fade’.

It’s the latest in a string of singles for the duo – brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch – following ‘Places’, ‘Take Me Away’, ‘OMG Plz Don’t Come Around’ and ‘flashdrive’.

“This song is actually a few years old, but it just took some time for people to believe in it enough to put it out,” Ross explains. “I’m really happy the song is finally coming out. The song is all about the inevitability of fading away… making the most of every moment.”

Moving to Black Honey now and we have ‘Run For Cover’.

The track – written with Mike Kerr from Royal Blood – arrives after months of lockdown, also following on from recent track ‘Beaches’.

Izzy B. Phillips explains: “’Run For Cover’ is about the nuances in sex. It’s fun but on a bit of a knife edge of risk and weird. Sex can be clumsy, emotional and complex. There’s so much baggage that it comes with.

“We wrote the song from a man’s perspective. It felt empowering to flip it to the female gaze. I think I’m exploring both power and my weakness in equal measure. We wanted it to sound manic – like Hives meets John Travolta, hips swinging. I love this song. I hope it makes women find themselves and dump their boyfriends.”

Of the video, she adds: “I wanted to explore the three different people inside me. A vulnerable character, a boss character, and a wild unhinged character. I think I can have all of these qualities and still be a woman. I wanted to explore something that pushes the binary expectation of femininity.”

How about an Aussie band now? Rock favourites Hands Like Houses took to Australias triple j’s acclaimed Like A Version segment this morning with a huge cover of Fuel’s ‘Shimmer’ alongside a performance of recent single ‘The Water’.

It comes soon after the announce of the band’s upcoming self-titled EP, due for release on Friday 23rd October through UNFD globally. The band are also offering a new cut from the EP with the single and video for ‘Dangerous’ out now. Following ‘Space’ and ‘The Water’,’Dangerous’ Continues in the bold and gritty vein of the Hands Like Houses EP.

On the track, HLH vocalist Trenton Woodley explains: “Something about this song has always been uncomfortable for me  when we started, ‘Dangerous’ was meant to be playful, confident, even arrogant – but as it came together, it felt like a reflection on frustration and losing control when all your confidence falls apart.”

Hands Likes Houses have spent over a decade defying expectations and challenging boundaries, staking their claim as one of Australia’s most acclaimed modern rock exports. With ARIA success, a triple j feature album, multiple sold out tours and legions of global fans under their belt, the band are poised to break even more ground as they step into this new decade.

On today’s ‘Dangerous’ music video, Woodley adds that it’s a reflection of the lyrical and musical volatility throughout the track.

“It’s a collage meant to evoke a sort of whiplash, cutting between cartoon bangs, pops and pows to destructive, explosive carnage that fundamentally changes the world we live in. We had the pleasure of working once again with Sam Shapiro to produce the clip, and once again he has come through with something equally as fun as it is powerful and we’re excited to put it out into the world,” he says.

Now for something a little recent but a new video to imagine alongside it, PVRIS have released a video for the title track from their new album ‘Use Me’. 

It’s the title-track from the band’s latest album which was released just a few weeks ago and sees frontwoman Lynn Gunn “own[ing] her role as PVRIS’ leader and sole architect”.

“Special thanks to Griffin Stoddard, Evan Brown, Laura Burhenn, Captain Daddy Sir, Claire Montgomery, Peggy Wright, TT Britt, and everyone else who made this video happen!” she says.

And last we have the British Singer/Songwriter Yungblud whom has shared a video to accompany his recently released track, ‘God Save Me, But Don’t Drown Me Out’.

It’s taken from his eagerly-awaited second studio album, ‘Weird!’, which he announced recently and Yungblud prefaces the video explaining who the track is for.

“For anyone lying in their bedroom at 4AM wondering why they aren’t good enough…”

New Music Video Roundup 04/09/20

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

Up first this week are the Ohio based Foxy Shazam whom return to the fold after a six year hiatus!

Their track ‘Dreamer’ is the first since the release of their 2014 record, ‘Gonzo’.

The video premiered on Consequence Of Sound and is the first pick of this weeks rounup.

Moving to Metalcore for the band Kingdom Of Hearts is next. Their video for ‘Wayfinder’ comes off their upcoming record, ‘Passenger’.

Dana Willax (Vocals) says:

“Our good friend Orie Mcginness has once again topped himself with our new video for ‘Wayfinder’. This is the first time we’ve ever done a video with very little performance, and also without most of the band members. We knew ‘Wayfinder’ was going to be a single before we ever even finished the song. It’s different than anything we have ever written and feel it has such a unique, refreshing vibe.”

Keeping to the metalcore genre for this next choice of band, we have Birmingham, AL’s Erra.

Their reputation for technical riffs, genius musicianship and emotional, visceral lyrics are fully displayed on their new single ‘Snowblood’ which sees its release today via UNFD. The track takes on deteriorating mental health and the life-sapping effects of technology respectively.


Vocalist and guitarist Jesse Cash adds, “The Snowblood instrumental had a dark intensity to it, so the only lyrics that seemed to fit contextually ended up being some of the darkest we’ve ever written. We wanted to paint a picture of a person’s deteriorating mental health by creating imagery akin to what you’d see in a horror movie. Instrumentally and lyrically, all the key elements of where we’re heading as a band on our new material are there.”

Following the release of ‘Ignorance Is Bliss’, Our Last Night have done it again with the video for the aforementioned track. At the time of writing, there’s no confirmation if the track is standalone or if it will feature on an upcoming release.

Now this is a first. The next two music videos we have on this week’s roundup are two from the same band! They’ve been released in a very recent time frame of each other.

This is California’s The Neighbourhood where both videos are off their upcoming record release ‘Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones’ set to be released on September 25th 2020.

The first is ‘Devil’s Advocate’.

And the second is ‘Pretty Boy’.

Now we look to the Post-Hardcore group Amarionette for the next pick of this week’s roundup. If you’re into neon, LED’s and slow motion tracking shots then this is the video for you.

The band have released a video for their title track off their recently released full length record, ‘Sunset Of This Generation’.

Now for the rising stars. I’ve got the excellent LA Alt-Rock five piece Sleeptalk as the eighth pick for this weeks Music Video Roundup.

The new single “100x” shifts between experimental soundscapes and a guitar groove creating the perfect blend of modern alternative pop-rock music. Meshing their unique alt-rock sound with contemporary electronic music punctuated by smooth vocal hooks, “100x” crafts the quintessential late-summer jam.

Sleeptalk has been streamed over 1.35 million times, opened for Twenty One Pilots, featured on various MTVs shows, as well as in Alternative Press, and has received radio play from the World Famous KROQ.

Frontman Anthony Fitzpatrick says, “Instrumentally, we wanted to go back to our roots and write something that has that genuine Sleeptalk vibe, while continuing to enhance our sound and grow as a band. The songwriting process started with the main keyboard riff accompanied by the bass line which gave the song its groove and feel. After finalizing it, we think it gives off the perfect blend of modern alternative pop and rock music. Lyrically, “100x” is about trying to convince your close friend that no matter how much your opinion on something might be hurtful, you are telling them because you want what’s best for them.”

Now for the penultimate choice in this week’s lineup, Machine Gun Kelly has reared his head again! Following the release of ‘My Ex’s Best Friend’, the video has dropped. The track also featured Blackbear on the release.

His upcoming record, ‘Tickets To My Downfall’ is set to be released on September 25th 2020.

And the last music video of choice for this weeks video roundup is Evanescence with their latest release of ‘Use My Voice’.

In the lead up to the US elections, it’s serving as a piece for people to rally and use their own voices.

The track not only features the band, but also Lzzy Hale (Halestorm), and “a diverse group of citizens as they unite for change and justice” reflective of the song’s message.

“This is an era of awakening, and full of powerful beauty,” says Amy of Use My Voice. “I hope to inspire others to seek truth, find their own voices, and use them as I step up to use mine. Don’t let anybody speak for you. Only you can do that.”

New Music Video Roundup

Hello everyone. I do apologise for not posting in the last week. As some of you might not know, I’m a one person operation on this blog and things just got away from me in the last few weeks where I’ve been applying for more jobs as well as working at my part time place of work so things have been a touch hectic for me at the time of writing. But enough of that real life stuff, let’s get to the music side of things.

The first pick of this week is Thousand Below. They have a animated video is a reworked version of their track ‘Chemical’. The track originaly featured on last year’s ‘Gone In Your Wake’.

This new version featured guest vocals from Dead Lakes frontman Sumner Peterson and is off their recent EP, ‘Let Go Of Your Love’ which does feature more reworked tracks off ‘Gone In Your Wake’.

Next we move to Australia. The heavy hitters in Alpha Wolf have their latest video for ‘Bleed 4 You’, which is the third single off their upcoming ‘A Quiet Place to Die’.

Sabian Lynch (Guitar) says on the track:

“This song is a little out of our comfort zone but upon completion we feel we created something special. We’re not a band who wants to stick solely to one sound, we have a wide variety of influences and we want each song to stand up on its own.

We initially had written pages of lyrics for this song. It seems most people have a story of meeting the exact right person at the exact wrong time, so there was no short supply of input. However the further we delved into the song, the more apparent it came that we didn’t need pages of lyrics, just a handful of the right words. Originally the track was a lot heavier, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, but once we had the lyrical theme in mind we revisited the song and it evolved into something none of us expected.”

Heading to the British waters for a bit of Punk this time in the form of Milk Teeth.

‘Sharks’ is off their recently released self-titled record where this video sees their fans assist in some clips.

“The video for ‘Sharks’ was put together to show fans and friends having fun during lockdown,” Becky explains. “It’s been a really weird few months globally and incredibly isolating for many, the aim of the video was to bring the music community together while we aren’t able be together in person. The submissions brought a lot of joy – a huge thank you to those who took part. Sharks is lyrically a very dark song juxtaposed against a catchy melody and tempo.

“Originally written on the piano, it’s about when I was being bullied for almost 2 years after a bad breakup and having to stay strong and determined even though I was getting swarmed by “sharks”. The “I need you like the air that I breathe” symbolises the unhealthy connection I had to the person involved – they were being abusive but I’d still feel like I needed them and their approval no matter how badly I was treated.

“The last verse is about how resilience is so important and that they may have left me vulnerable and metaphorically “exposed “ but that I wouldn’t be made to disappear until my bones have rusted out (resilience) and that even the wear and tear wouldn’t beat me.”

Keeping the next pick on British soil, Norwich’s Other Half released their debut record, ‘Big Twenty’ out into the world via Venn Records on the 21st August 2020.

Before that happened however, they dropped ‘Sameness Without End’ into the world for everyone to enjoy.

On the video, the band say:

“As nice as it’s been making all our previous videos ourselves, it’s pretty hard to get us all playing together when Sophie has to be stood behind the camera the whole time. I think we operate at our best when we’re actually making a din together, so we asked our friend Tom from Road Mutant to make us a video where we do just that.

We recorded the video at Sick Room, the studio where we recorded ‘Big Twenty’. Owen who runs Sick Room was such an important part of making the record so it was nice to come back and spend some quality time at the studio playing the same song over and over again in 33 degree heat.”

Now, in much anticipation of their upcoming record, ‘Ohmns’, Deftones have the title track in music video for for up. This is the first offering for us in four years since the release of their record ‘Gore’.

Moving onto the German progessive metal band The Ocean. they have a video for the track, ‘Oilgocene’ which is set to come on their upcoming record, ‘Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic | Cenozoic’.

The video was filmed by Loïc Rossetti (Vocals) and David Åhfeldt (Guitar) and Robin Staps (Guitar) , the video was shot in the Aragats mountains in Armenia during one of their tours last summer.

On the video Staps says:

“We found this place by accident: the dilapidated ruins of a soviet observatory & research station for cosmic radiation. The building itself looked like a spaceship that had crash-landed up high in the mountains, but there were lots of interesting structures scattered across the landscape: concrete cubes, underground tunnels, rusted machinery, fallen power poles and watchtowers. It all looked like taken straight out of Andrej Tarkovsky’s ‘Stalker’ movie.”

Heading over to Little Rock, Arkansas for our next pick in the quartet Pallbearer for the video of ‘Rite Of Passage’, the second single off their upcoming record, ‘Forgotten Days’.

Joseph Rowland (Bass) says:

“‘Rite Of Passage’ is both a reflection and a confessional. The toll that loss has taken on my life often finds ways to remind me that I may never feel whole, and the song’s purpose is to express and embody that emptiness. It felt totally appropriate to wrap it in reimagined trappings of our earliest doom-leaning material.”

Vegas anyone? That’s the destination of the Post-Hardcore Amarionette whom have the video for their title – track off their latest record, ‘Sunset On This Generation’.

How about a Philadelphia band?

The up and coming group Neverkept have a new single out in the world titled as ‘Sundown Somehow’ alongside the accompanying video.

It’s uncertain if the track is a stand along single or if it’ll be part of a larger EP or Record.

The band explain:

“We wanted to write something that would sound like the ups and downs you face in recovery or struggles in any capacity, for that matter, through the sound of pissed off guitars, room rocking drums, and intimate vocals.”

Toning things down slightly, we have the Chicago Singer/Songwriter Into It. Over It with the new track and accompanying video for ‘We Prefer Indoors’.

This is off the upcoming fourth record, ‘Figure’ set to be released via Big Scary Monsters / Triple Crown Records which will be the follow up to the 2016 effort, ‘Standards’.

And lastly we have the ever incredible Normandie, which is one of the EU’s best exports as well as their home country of Sweden.

They have for us ‘Jericho’ which is the bands first new music in two years since the release of their record, ‘White Flag’.

We all have our secrets. Whether we’re ready to face them or not, each and every one of us has something buried deep down inside that we desperately keep hidden away from the prying, judging eyes of the rest of the world. But sometimes those secrets become so powerful that they can no longer stay buried, festering and gnawing at our souls so much that they can stop us from living life to the fullest. He didn’t realise it until recently, but singer Philip Strand was harbouring one such secret for the longest time.

“When we first wrote Jericho I was actually singing about something else,” he begins. “It was originally about a relationship where the other person was very cold hearted and they didn’t really give away any emotions but it became increasingly clear that something else was driving the song.”

“Writing became like a therapy session for me, all of a sudden,” he explains, “I felt like there was something deeper I wanted to touch on. I wanted to touch base and just really go into this emotion. Something was driving me down there, into myself. So I made a conscious decision to write about my personal experiences for the first time. I felt like it was time. I went back and I switched some words around so that the entire meaning of the song shifted. It’s became about breaking down the old to give way and form something completely new…”

Music Video Roundup 31/07/20

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week is Jamie Lenman. With his EP, ‘King Of Clubs’ getting closer and closer, he’s released a new video in the form of ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Your Friend’.

This initially premiered over on Louder, the video was shot during lockdown, and features a handful of familiar faces from bands such as Black Peaks, Ithaca, Wargasm, Haggard Cat, and more.

This is what Lenman had to say of the song.

“After my last originals album ‘Devolver’ was a quite a contemplative, inward-looking record, I started looking outwards for ‘King Of Clubs’ and obviously I got pretty angry pretty quickly about the state of the world. The first single, ‘Summer Of Discontent’, was all about feeling helpless in the face of corrupt governments, and now this new single is about calling out unacceptable behaviour amongst your own peers.

I’m fed up of all the excuses people use to explain away things like bullying or racism and it felt good to finally say something about it publicly. I feel like there are a lot of lines being drawn in the sand at this time and hopefully here’s one more.”

We’re heading over to Buffalo for our next pick in this weeks countdown with the metalcore quartet Until I Wake, with the band’s latest release in ‘Less Of Me’, shot during lockdown.

Cody Johnson (Vocals) says:

“‘Less Of Me’ is a song that shows our softer side. We recorded the video ourselves due to lockdown from COVID-19. The lyrics are about giving up on a relationship that feels one sided, watching someone move on and not seem to care while you are left hurting.”

Who’s up for a live performance?

Northlane recently announced the details of a streaming event where they’ll be showcasing their sold out Roundhouse, Sydney show from October 2019.

“Like everybody on this platform around the world, we really miss live music. Both watching and performing, it’s a life changing and defining passion that runs through our veins. We’ve always wanted to bring this experience home to you, and right now there is no better time to do that.

Now, here’s what you can expect with a live video of ‘Bloodline’.

Keeping things Aussie for one more track but switching up the genre, we have Yours Truly. The bands animated video venture for ‘Together’ is the second track from their upcoming debut record, ‘Self Care’ where they have a Mortal Kombat style to things

‘Self Care’ is set to be released on September 18th via UNFD.

Vocalist Mikaila Delgado had this to say about the album:

“There was this almost electric feeling of excitement about getting to sit down and write our first record but also a huge feeling of anxiety at the same time.

We didn’t want to release something and have people say that we’re actually not that good and weren’t worthy of all the success we were getting… it was like we all had imposter syndrome.”

Moving to the Rap Metal genre for the next video of choice but still keeping the animation theme going are the California’s Body Count.

This track of choice for ‘Three Critical Beatdown’ is off their recently released record, ‘Carnivore’, which is available now via Century Media Records.

Who wants a new band to be checking out?

I haven’t found much information on this band as I’d like to for the post but there was something so compelling about the track and the video an exception had to have been made. I’ll be keeping an eye on Coldcasket in the near future as they storm on the video for ‘Letting Go’.

From Pouring Rain to their raging fires, Malevolence have their release of ‘The Other Side’ which is something must be watched because visually, it’s one of the most exciting things I’ve seen in a while.

Vocalist Alex Taylor had this to say about what the song means to them:

“The Other Side is a big step outside of our comfort zone both musically and visually. Anyone that has followed us since the beginning will be aware that we have tested the waters with a more melodic sound previously but we have never taken the full plunge until now. 

“We were very apprehensive as to how The Other Side would be received by our supporters, since it seems that progression is something that is rarely welcomed within the metal world. However, we strongly believe that we have a lot more to offer as musicians than just heavy riffs and hard mosh parts, and that the strength of the song would be enough to win over even the most skeptical metal purists. 

Lyrically the song covers the topic of losing someone, whether we are referring a romantic relationships or bereavement is open to your interpretation.”

Moving into Arizona territory right now with one of Rude Record’s latest signings in Sundressed.

The video for ‘Your Frequency’ is the band’s first new track since their signing with the label where their second studio record, ‘Home Remedy’ will be released September 18th 2020.

Frontman Trevor Hedges had this to say of the track.

“‘Your Frequency’ is about the “side-hustle” culture. How it’s never okay to relax, how something always comes up when you’re almost ahead. This song is about the desire to have less worry about essential needs and have more time to be human.”

After releasing their latest track a few week’s ago, Hot Milk have now a visual approach for ‘California’s Burning’.

The band had the following to say:

“We had something to say so we just fkin said it. Not anti-American, just anti-asshole.

“This is a rally cry against greed and the ruling class that so desperately cling to control the freethinkers and the good hearted.  We are all children of today and mavericks of tomorrow.

“We can build a bridge because their minds are too narrow.”

In addition, the track is available to buy on 7′ record with a portion of the proceeds going to the Black Lives Matter movement as well as Stop Hate UK.

Last week Neck Deep released their fourth record as a group which was ‘All Distortions Are Intentions’ where this video was the last before the album cycle started. The track they had for this video? ‘Sick Joke’.

On the release, Ben Barlow (Vocals) had the following to say:

“It’s a song that questions the fabric of reality whilst battling mental health. Jett contemplates whether life itself is even real, in fairly ethereal terms, due to the internal suffering he is experiencing. Shredding solos, punchy rhythms and stomping drums drive the song along, and it sonically represents the more minor driven side of the record.”
