Parkway Drive Announce New Record, ‘Darker Still’

Australian metal juggernauts Parkway Drive are pleased to announce their seventh album Darker Still. The record, which is their first full-length since 2018’s Reverence, arrives on September 9 via Epitaph Records.

Parkway Drive have also shared the masterfully cinematic video for “The Greatest Fear,” which features the band’s galloping guitar work, moshy breakdowns, and guttural vocals amidst a stunning backdrop that will transport you elsewhere.

“The greatest fear, the one we all share; this song is about the unifying force we all must face —death,” says McCall. “The goal was to create a song that saw death not as something that separates, but something that connects us all on our paths. Musically, we wanted to create a song that did this concept justice. It’s heavy, it’s epic and when it stomps it leaves an impact.”

“The Greatest Fear” follows the release of the video for “Glitch,” a frenetic exploration of the things our minds experience when we are not awake — but not yet asleep — such as night terrors and sleep paralysis.

Parkway Drive Begin Writing New Record

Touring plans have been scrapped yet they find a way to march through it! Aussie giants have now confirmed they have been working on a follow up to their 2018 record, ‘Reverence’.

In a video interview with Rock Sound, Winston McCall (vocals) shared the following:

“We’ve started writing, which is awesome. It’s not something that happens fast for us. Basically, our calendar is messed up. We were gonna take a whole bunch of time off next year to start writing anyway, and now our [touring plans for] this year [have] been wiped out. So, let’s just flip the years around — that kind of thing — so we’ve started writing now.

And I’m not sure that’s gonna mean that anything will be out sooner — I probably doubt it — but it definitely makes it where we’re [able to stay] active. Which is really, really cool — it’s a challenge, but it’s fun. It’s nice to know that there’s a lot of gas in the tank, which is really, really cool. At this initial stage, you always hope the passion is still there. You just never know.

When we write an album and we record an album, we really do put everything we have into one [project until there is] nothing left. We just hope it comes back. Because we always walk out, and it’s, like, “I can’t imagine ever writing another song [like that]. That’s all the ideas we have at this point in time.” And you hope the spark comes back. And it’s been fun. It’s been fun because — lots of sparks.”

In the same interview with McCall, he explains the current circumstances has taken away potential distractions, which allows them to focus on the writing more.

This is literally a situation where it’s just, like, fucking clamps put on everything — we can’t move. The only thing you can move is your mind and creating music, and it’s been liberating to not have that other parts of your mind occupied. So it’s fun.”

Parkway Drive Re-Record Three Tracks…. In German.

Parkway Drive have announced some details of the soundtrack for their upcoming Documentary called Viva The Underdogs, which also features three studio re-recordings of their tracks, but here’s the twist; they’ve been re-recorded in German!

They’ve released the first, ‘The Void’ which does translate to ‘Die Leer’.

The soundtrack on the Doc features 11 live recordings from Parkway’s headlining set at Wacken Festival in Germany last year, which will come with the fikkiwubg re-recorded German versions of: ‘Vice Grip’ (‘Würgegriff’) and ‘The Void’ (‘Die Leer’), and ‘Ire’ track ‘Shadow Boxing’ (‘Schattenboxen’).

On their German iterations of the tracks, ‘Winston McCall’ has shared:

“This was hands down one of the most unique projects we’ve undertaken. The idea of taking our songs and interpreting them through another language was a massive challenge, but considering the amount of time, love and support that has been shown to us over the years we wanted to commit to doing the project with full integrity. The result is every effort being made to translate the meaning, spirit, and conviction of these songs in a language that is not our own.”

He continued, “We hope the result helps to strengthen the connection this music creates. We offer you these songs out of respect and our heartfelt thanks for all the times you have sung them with us in their original forms. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed the process of creating them.”

Check out the German version of ‘The Void’ below.

Music Video Roundup 01/02/2019

It’s time for a new roundup. If you’re new to the posts this is how it goes down. I look for the best ten videos of the last week (or so) and compile ten of the best for your viewing pleasure.

First up are Swallow The Sun. They’ve just released their new record, ‘When A Shadow Is Forced Into The Light’ and this video was their final release just before the record dropped. Here’s the video for ‘Firelights’.

Second on this weeks list are Long Beach’s Half Alive. Their breakthrough video has racked up over 13 Million views to date since its upload and now they have something new for everyone which will mark their first piece of new music since the release of their EP last year. Check out Arrow below.

Time to change things up for a live video. The next video is from none other than Enter Shikari. It’s off from  ‘Take To The Skies. Live In Moscow (Bootleg Series Vol. 9). This set was recorded live in Russia in front of over 6000 fans at Moscow’s Adrenaline Stadium on the 2017 ‘Take To The Skies’ 10th-anniversary tour. Check out ‘Return To Energiser’ below.

Moving to America, this next video is from post-rockers, ‘The End Of The Ocean. This is coming from their first record in over five years (eight to be exact) which is off ‘-aire’ and comes in the form of the track, ‘Desire.

We’re changing things up again, for a Lyric video this time. Aussie metalcore favourite’s Parkway Drive have a new track in the form of ‘Shadow Boxing’ which just shows a gloomy and dark version for this track.  It’s off their latest record, ‘Reverence’ which was released in May 2018.

We’re keeping things going with American Football. They’ve teamed up with Paramore’s Hayley Williams on a track from their upcoming self-titled record which is titled as ‘Uncomfortably Numb’.

Time for a little more hardcore in the form of Wars. They’ve just released their new EP ‘As Within /// So Without’ last week, but they had a final treat for fans before the release of it. The EP acts as a buffer between their debut full-length ‘We Are Islands, After All’ and their sophomore follow-up, which will drop later this year.

Check out ‘Scorn And Fidelity’ below.

Odds are you’ve seen this next track, or heard about it in some way shape or form. After a few teases from the band known as Twenty One Pilots, the band released the video for their next entry in ‘Trench’. Fun fact though, this doesn’t follow the ‘Trench’ narratives established in previous videos.

Check out ‘Chlorine’ below.

With the news that a new record called ‘Eternal Forward Motion’ is on the way from Woking’s hard-hitting and hard-working Employed To Serve, they have a new single and video ready to go in the form of ‘Force Fed’ which you can view below.

And lastly, we have singer/songwriter from Chester, ladies and gentlemen Lizzy Farrall. At the time of writing, I’m not sure if this is a stand-alone track or something which will be a part of a future EP but nevertheless, its a pretty great track for her. Check out the video for ‘Barbados’ below.

You can stream and check out the video below.

And that’s it for another week of music video roundups. For another ten of the best don’t forget to check back next week at 4PM.

Music Video’s 18/05/18

Now I know I missed last week! I’ve been a little overwhelmed as of late but there is a list this week! But enough of me chatting away, here are my picks for recent music videos!

First up is August Burns Red. They’ve dropped a creepy new video for ‘King Of Sorrow’ but it is really amazing!

Now, Against The Current have recently announced a new era and with a new era comes new music… and new music videos. Check out the new era in Strangers Again.

Ahead of their upcoming visit to the UK next month, German rockers Alazka have released a video to accompany, ‘Everglow’, the latest cut from their debut record, ‘Phoenix’.

Next, New York deathcore group Emmure showcase a quite gruesome killing spree in their new video for ‘Ice Man Confessions’. The track was inspired by Richard Kuklinski, who’s most known as the Ice Man Killer whom frontman Frankie Palmeri plays.

Ahead of the release of their new record, ‘Reverence’ Aussie Hard-hitters Parkway Drive have dropped a new video for their track ‘Prey’. This is is the third single the band have released prior to their new record.

Like Moths To Flames are proving to be one’s to watch at the moment as the band have lifted a new video for ‘Empty The Same, the latest track from ‘Dark Divine’.

Moving to Sussex. The trio known as Gloo have revealed a new video off their debut record, ‘A Pathetic Youth’. This is the video for Holiday.

Palm Reader are another band to be watching and for good reason. Everyone is loving their dark, dreamlike tracks and now they have a new video which goes alongside that criteria. It’s taken off their third studio record, ‘Braille’ via Silent Cult Records.

As Chvrches get ready for the official release of their new record, Love Is Dead, they have now released a video for ‘Miracle’.

Lastly on the new video list is Varials. They’re coming off the back of the band’s record and the fantastic track for the last pick of this week is Empire of Dirt. It’s from their record, ‘Pain Again’ which was released via Fearless Records and you just have to watch it. I mean it.
