Erra Announce Deluxe Edition of S/T

Prolific metalcore progressives, ERRA are issuing a deluxe version of their latest album S/T on 18th March via UNFD.

The expanded edition is beefed up with seven additional tracks, including a feature from Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante along with three covers. With touring off the table for most of 2021, the band found other means of creative outlet, and opted to re-enter the studio with producers Carson and Grant around the time of the release of what would go on to become their career-defining self titled album.

“During the end of 2020 and the start of 2021, we tried to take advantage of not being able to tour and having extra time at home,” says guitarist/clean vocalist Jesse Cash. “So while we were rolling out singles and announcing our self-titled record, we were also in the studio recording some new songs for a deluxe edition of the record. This was our favourite of the bunch.”

Regarding the deeper meaning of “Nigh to Silence,” Cash says, “The song is set on an empty earth observed by the moon. I intended to express as much loneliness as I could. Then, I thought of ‘walking in the shadow of my own ghost,’ which felt like the loneliest visual I could muster. I wrote the first line about how the process of writing music feels and my deeply internal fear of being forgotten or irrelevant: ‘Floating song, I caught in a dream and passed it on. Frail and fragile is the ghost that I will carry and time will swallow.’

Cash also offers some insight into the band’s process, saying, “Creative ideas seemingly spring up out of nowhere, are nurtured into complete works, and once that is done, I immediately begin moving on to the next thing, to the degree that by the time the song is out and people are hearing it for the first time, I’ve already kind of said my goodbye, mourned its loss, and moved on from it entirely. This always feels sad, but also cathartic to hand the song over to the listeners and relinquish ownership of it. It feels necessary for me to grow as a musician and as a person, to constantly acknowledge a lack of ownership over anything but myself. It was really special for me to finally write a song about the quiet poignancy of writing songs themselves, and ‘Nigh to Silence’ has become one of my favourites.”

On their career-defining fifth studio album ERRA, the band confront depression, anxiety and desperation throughout. They take listeners on a near-out-of-body journey to Aokigahara, the infamous Suicide Forest of Japan; into episodic storytelling that would make Black Mirror writers proud; and into the literary works of Cormac McCarthy and Hubert Selby Jr. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, it’s a definitive mission statement for guitarist Jesse Cash, vocalist J.T. Cavey, drummer Alex Ballew, bassist Conor Hesse, and guitarist Sean Price, each of them already well-respected players revered for their inspiring technicality and raw, natural talent.

AVALAND’s Debut Record To Drop On April 2nd 2021

Grenoble, France’s AVALAND will welcome fans to their symphonic and operatic metal world when they release their debut album “Theater of Sorcery” on April 2, 2021, via Rockshots Records

Today, the band presents their third single “Let The Wind Blow” featuring guests Zaher Zorgati (Myrath), Madie (Nightmare/Faith In Agony), Heli Andrea (Mobius/OLANE), and Jeff Kanji.

Band founder and mastermind Adrien G. Gzagg comments about the track:

“I was inspired a lot by the 80’s AOR rock for this song. The chorus is one that continuously loops the most in my mind. As part of the album’s storyline, the song introduces Adam’s Beloved, Solveig performed by Heli Andrea, and Adam’s Best Friend Jacob voiced by Jeff Kanji.

Check out ‘Let The Wind Blow’ via Youtube, Spotify and Apple Music.

Inspired by heroic fantasy, history, mythologies, and esoterism, Adrien G. Gzagg decided to create an epic story album with 8 characters. Entitled “Theater Of Sorcery”, the debut will be a theatrical metal adventure that tells the story of a young sorcerer Adam Wilstorm who could be the salvation of bringing back the light to the kingdom of Avaland and during his journey, he must learn to control his powers linked to the Storm.

For AVALAND, Gzagg reunited with four musician friends Camille Souffron (Bass), Christophe Feutrier (Guitars), Lucas Martinez (Guitars), and Léo Mouchonay (Drums) that he has performed with in the past to help him to record the metal opera’s debut full-length. The record also includes talented guests for vocals and guitars with Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Zak Stevens (Savatage/TSO), Zaher Zorgati (Myrath), Emmanuelson (Rising Steel), Stéphan Forté (Adagio), Madie (Nightmare)among many other great musicians.

Gzagg adds:

“I started my heavy metal life as a great fan of Avantasia and Ayreon. I was impressed by those big teams Tobias Sammet and Arjen Lucassen could create. I quickly knew I would make something like this in my life! It wasn’t easy to find musicians who were crazy enough to follow me in this adventure, and I thank them so much for their trust in this project, especially guitarist Christophe Feutrier (guitars) my partner in crime for Avaland for 5 years now.

I like to also add that Avaland is not a “classic” band, it’s a Metal-Opera and when Covid is over, I plan to take it the stage with many vocalists to perform this theatrical tale of an epic and magical story. To sum it up, Avaland is a modern-age opera to not just fans of metal, but beyond!”

The debut album “Theater of Sorcery” will be released on April 2, 2021.

Hollow Front Release ‘Loose Threads (Reimagine) Single, LP Re-Issue Coming February 2021

After announcing their signing to UNFD at the tail end of 2020, rapidly rising US metalcore outfit Hollow Front are stepping into the new year with Loose Threads (Reimagined). Today’s release finds the four-piece stripping the track back to its acoustic bones and completely amplifying the emotional heart cry within.

Hollow Front vocalist/guitarist Dakota Alvarez shares the searingly personal inspiration behind the track:

“‘Loose Threads’ was the manifestation of a plea/cry towards my best friend succumbing to his mental illness, and almost ending his life. The song was written to express the wave of emotions I felt while reading what could’ve been his last texts, and trying to do everything in my power to get him to hold our bond strong enough to reconsider his decision.”

He explains that the decision to make a ‘Reimagined’ version of the track came from the desire to portray a softer, but more haunting side of both the song and the band themselves. “We thought that creating this rendition would open up the ability for people to connect with our music on a deeper, more intimate level, and experience Hollow Front in a more vulnerable setting, artistically,” he says.

Paired with its new music video, the arrival of ‘Loose Threads (Reimagined)’ follows the band’s latest release ‘Wearing Thin’ (listen/watch HERE), released alongside their signing in December. Both tracks will appear on the special re-issue of Hollow Front’s acclaimed debut album Loose Threadsreleased for the first time on vinyl via UNFD next month.

The arrival of Loose Threads in June 2020 saw Michigan locals Hollow Front declared an immediate must-watch, clocking over 1 Million streams in its first week and 5 Million+ in a matter of months. Offering a moment of reprieve from the outside chaos and a reminder that we aren’t alone, the release of Loose Threads haspositioned Hollow Front on the tip of a global breakout.

Musically, the album summons the heaviness of names such as Wage War and The Ghost Inside with the melodics of the likes of Polaris. While thematically, Loose Threads touches on incredibly dark personal experiences, Hollow Front assert that this record is a crutch for anyone overcoming something. Vocalist Tyler Tate declares: “I think it’s very symbolic of the lone wolf breaking free, free from whatever it is holding him back from chasing whatever his heart desires.”

Hollow Front join a huge crop of North American talent on UNFD’s roster, with recent additions including ERRAFrank IeroSilverstein and Like Moths To Flames, on top of the likes of Stray From The PathSilent Planet and LIMBS.

UNFD will release Hollow Front’s Loose Threads on vinyl for the first time in February featuring the full record, ‘Wearing Thin’, ‘Loose Threads (Reimagined)’ + more. Limited copies are available for pre-order now.
