New Music Roundup 09/10/20

Happy second week of October everyone! Welcome back to the new music roundup. We’re here for a roundup of five of the best recently released tracks. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week are the enigmatic duo iDKHOW whom have shared a new lyric video ahead of the release of their upcoming debut record.

The clip for third track ‘New Invention’ was shot in one take on the set of the Kubrickian ‘70s sci-fi video with Raul Gonzo.

The creative project of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dallon Weekes – who features on the cover of September’s Dork ‘btw’ – ‘Razzmatazz’ is due out on 23rd October via Fearless Records.

Moving to the newcomers from Bedford, we have Club Dread as they share their monstrous debut single ‘FLOOR GAZER’ released via respected UK alternative label Silent Cult Records.

Recorded and produced at Monolith Studios, London by Steve Sears (Gallows, Gold Key, WACO). The band’s crushing and satisfyingly bleak new single ‘Floor Gazer’ sees vocalist Jim Dummer question what it means to have relationships and true connections in a world that is addicted to social media and 24-hour news cycles.

Jim Dummer (Vocals) says:

“We live in a time that has never been more connected but never more alone. Social media, conversations and interactions all reduced to converting friendships into likes and comments. Floor Gazer is a reflection of modern-day social interactions, focusing on the dismissal of emotion, false portrayals and being aware of a mask that we put on within certain situations. This song focuses on the negative effects of spending such a large portion of the day miserable or in a poor headspace merely to survive and compete with other people who feel exactly the same… and more importantly, noticing a difference within yourself.”

The OBGMs have released a new single from forthcoming album ‘The Ends’, which is set  for release 30 October via Black Box. The very first track of the record, ‘Outsah’ serves as a dizzying, percussion-strafed statement of intent. Vocalist and guitarist Densil McFarlane directed and produced the hard-hitting music video that accompanies the track himself:

“We make movies over here. Outsah is a joint collaboration with Clairmont The Second and Beee and we really wanted to do something gritty. I wanted to tell a story in a cinematic continuous shot and really make a statement. This song, and this video, speak to what we are willing to do. We are going to run up in your house, give us what we want.”

“This is one of those songs where we’re doing stuff other people aren’t doing,” McFarlane continues. “We threw bongos on the motherfucker. That song is a statement and that statement is, ‘We’re not afraid of you, and we’re willing to confront you. Come see me if you have a problem with it. We’re already outside.’”

The OBGMs (that’s The oOoh Baby Gimme Mores) — rounded out by drummer Colanthony Humphrey and bassist Joseph Brosnan — aren’t your typical rock band.

“This is a black-fronted punk band, and that’s really important,” McFarlane says. “Rock n’ roll is mostly white suburban kids—that’s what gets promoted. But we are black and we out here. I was inspired to make rock music when I saw a black guy on stage, and if someone sees that in us, I hope it will inspire a new generation to go after this.”

And now we have Emo/pop-rock band Happy. release their new single ‘Background Noise’.  The track serves as the second part of previous single “A Cure For Wellness”, which premiered last month on Rocksound. Vocalist/guitarist Tate Logan elaborates:

“Both songs focus on the story of someone very close to me that I love very much struggling with addiction. Background Noise in particular is a reflection of the experience from my side. It is a song full of forgiveness and understanding and love. After a lot of time and thought, I realize now how I could have handled the whole thing better.”

‘Background Noise’ is the fourth single, following ‘Liarliar’, ‘A Cure for Wellness’ and ‘Sick is the New Sane’, from the band’s new album, Imposter Syndrome, due out on October 30 via Rude Records. Produced by Marc McClusky (Weezer, Motion City Soundtrack, The Front Bottoms), the album is a narrative on the band’s personal experience with the effects of Imposter Syndrome.

They explain, “From the lows of depression, anxiety, and addiction, to the highs of travelling, making friends and living the dream, this record is our everlasting chase for ‘success.’”

And lastly this week on the roundup we have the Post-Hardcore foursome Raiders led by the larger than life Sean Smith and James ‘Bob’ Davies (Ex-The Blackout). The track continues their plunging catalogue of tracks which have been released, following ‘Destructobot’ and ‘Wasting Away’.

‘I Still Function’ is the band’s third single since their inception.

And that’s it for another week of a countdown of the best new tracks out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. New Music Roundup 11/09/20

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music roundup. We’re here for a roundup of five of the best recently released tracks. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!

First up this week on the New Music Round is the San Diego Surf / Skate Punks Wanted Noise with their latest single ‘Go Get’

Bassist Jin Salamack who wrote and performs lead vocals on the track says:

“Go Get” was a saying my high school track coach Gary Sanchez used to tell us at practice. “If you want it bad enough, you need to go get, go get,” forgetting the ‘it.’ I swear he knew that it would spark a song title one day. This single speaks for the youth and adults who never grew out of doing what they’re passionate about. Not giving up on your dreams by giving in to what society thinks is best for us. This song also speaks for this band. We met in college, got our degrees, but at the end of the day, we still would much rather be on stage sharing our experiences with our fans. Hopefully our music can inspire others, as the bands of our generation did for us.”

In the words of Wanted Noise themselves:

Wanted Noise. A bunch of loud, obnoxious, and handsome dudes who love to play distorted instruments in cool places. Bringing back that SoCal punk sound with a twist and shake of today’s modern hits. We’ll play venues, bars, backstage, backyard, your home, garage, next to your pool, in your pool, wherever the sun sets.

Up next on this weeks Roundup, we have the South Coast trio Snake Eyes. We have for you their third single, ‘Skeletons’ and this one? It’s an absolute cracker!

“This was a track that kinda fell in my lap,” admits vocalist and guitarist Jim Heffy when talking about snake eyes’ newly-released single ‘Skeletons’. “A guy at my old work would make these very questionable remarks/“jokes”. I didn’t wanna make a scene as I was leaving the job so I’d just bite my lip, which looking back I feel was the wrong move. The lyrics came to me when driving home from work so I had to pull over and quickly whip the voice recorder app out and sing it all before I forgot. When I got home, the chords wrote themselves and the song was done in 10 minutes. We shot most of the video in Thomas’ basement but filmed the arcade scenes in Hastings on the seafront. The bulk of the video was shot last August so naturally we got some funny looks/comments, including “Halloween’s not for another 2 months, dickhead”.”

Heading over to Brisbane, Australia for our next pick this week we have Waxflower.

‘Getting Better’ strips away everything apart from guitar and vocalist Tristan Higgins’ soft croon to create a poignantly stirring acoustic track that cuts right to the soul.

Let Tristan explain where it originated:

“Getting Better was me tying a bow on a dark period of my life. A particularly long and intense panic attack had landed me in the hospital. Every attack at the time felt like a failure, as if it were erasing any hard-earned progress on a long journey to betterment. I noted the impact of that night on the people around me – we all felt defeated. I felt ashamed.

The song catalogues that period and its aftermath, the breakdown of a relationship. It helped me to explore the roots of my feelings at the time and work towards accepting the outcome was for the best of everyone involved.”

And for the penultimate pick on this weeks rundown of tracks, there is the Metalcore duo VantaVoid. In this duo, lead vocalist Frank Gioia (CrankThatFrank) and multi-instrumentalist Tyler Young (Makeout), hope to summon listeners into a supportive community of outcasts. With songs of fearless intensity, featuring searing vocals, chainsaw guitars and pulverizing rhythms, the duo gives testimony to this axis of trauma and truth.

VantaVoid takes their name from the color “vantablack” the darkest black in the color spectrum. While there is certainly plenty of darkness in their music, there is also illumination to fill the void. Frank testifies that pain can produce power. “The important thing with feeling emotion is to channel it through something positive, and to create something to make other people feel good.”

“Burn is a song about destroying everything I love and hate. It comes from a very self-destructive time in my life where I didn’t want to channel my anger into anything but destroying every bridge I ever built. Not only is this the heaviest song we have, but Frankie Palmeri from Emmure adds his own flair to the track and we were fortunate to have Drew Fulk (WZRD BLD) mix it.”- Frank Gioia (VantaVoid)

And here lastly we have the absolute powerhouses in Raiders. This is Sean Smith (Ex- The Blackout) latest project where the new dynamic is as destructive as any band on the scene. ‘Destructobot’ follows on from their previous release in the form of ‘Wasting Away’ which is just desolating noise which will stay with you for a long time.

And that’s it for another week of a countdown of the best new tracks out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. Music Video Roundup 03/05/19

It’s 4PM on a Friday! This means it’s time for the music video roundup. If you’re new to either the blog or these music video roundup posts, this is how it works. Every week, I watch some of the best recently released music videos and compile them into a list for everyone’s viewing pleasure. They’re span across all the different genres, so expect something different for most of the tracks. First up are the electro-industrial duo fascinated by the world of both crime and serial killers. Their song ‘Jim Jones’ is named after the infamous cult leader, whom in 1978 committed a mass murder-suicide of 918 people after he forced his followers to consume cyanide-poisoned drinks.

On the track, Skynd has said:

“I always wanted to write about Jim Jones because I’ve long been fascinated by how easily people are manipulated when it comes to religion. It was interesting how people followed him while ignoring all of the facts to the contrary about who he truly was. We put the facts of the story into music. I was also intrigued by the audio tapes of him talking his followers into suicide, I knew I had to write about it.”

Next up are the first taste of a brand new band, Raiders. They’re made of former members of The Blackout (Sean Smith & James Davies), Ryan Lewis and Chris Davies (no relation to James).

Check out the first taste of the band in the form of ‘Wasting Away’ below.

Moving up to Manchester, in the form of the metal band Derange, they have a video for ‘Divide’ which is about dealing with toxic people and the situations in your life.

“‘Divide’ touches on the subject of being in a toxic environment with someone else. You’re exhausted, you’re aware how bad it is and you’re not yourself anymore. But you feel so attached by that someone that you feel like you can’t escape anymore.

Whilst difficult circumstances to be in, it sends a message of hope. It tells you can put your foot down, peel off that painful layer, and discover the superhuman in all of us that can overcome the tough encounters we endure.”

Mayday Parade may not be back on UK shores until Reading and Leeds festival in August but, until then we have a new music video from the band where the concept was thought up by none other than their drummer, Jake Bundrick.

“‘Never Sure’ always gave me a feeling of energy and it only seemed appropriate to make a video that not only included us performing live but also included behind the scenes footage of the band being ourselves while on tour. I remember seeing videos on Instagram of Chris’ work with Neck Deep, 3OH!3, and Don Broco, and I just knew he was the man for the job. It was an honor to work with him and I think he gave the song even more life in the form of a video. Enjoy!”

Next, they’re currently touring the US but the heavy hitters’ Spite have a very sinister video which is aptly named ‘The Root Of All Evil’ for us to enjoy.

Now, for a fan-favourite track. Nothing, Nowhere has had this on streaming services for a while but originally it was a secret track! It’s done in a one-take setting which has Joe Mulherin playing ‘Ornament’ while he also makes maple syrup. Random but interesting.

Now, I think Zac Farro (Paramore) has had enough of sitting behind the drumkit. His own side project, HalfNoise recently released a 60’s influenced video for ‘Who Could You Be’. In addition to this, Farro also directed the video for the track, saying:

“With the ‘Who Could You Be’ video, I wanted to capture the energy and immediacy of the song and also have the band be seen right away instead of having a concept that is too artistic and hard to understand. As the director, I wanted to showcase the performance of the song more than the lyrical meaning. The main goal was to make a classic video that you can watch a long time from now.”

With the release of their debut EP, ‘Ghost Like You’ out into the world, this video for ‘Find Away’ had the post-hardcore newcomers Captives see them address mental health.

On the track they said:

“This song means a lot to us as a band and if you relate to the lyrics, we hope you find strength in knowing you’re not alone and you can always find a way. Help break the stigma and let’s keep the conversation going.”

How about some more Post-hardcore for the penultimate video? Yeah? Well, in that case, we have ‘Divided’ by As Everything Unfolds. They’ve got some festival appearances this summer but had this for every to see which is their third single from their ‘Closure’ EP but as a bonus, the track features Sam Stolliday of TheCityIsOurs.

Lastly, on this week’s music video countdown, we have some undead madness from the Alex Gaskarth and Mark Hoppus super duo Simple Creatures. They’re currently on a high as they’ve recently released their debut EP as well as playing a few shows which acted as their first as a duo for its release.

And that’s it for another week of music video roundup. Don’t forget to check back next week at 4PM sharp for another countdown of ten of the best recent music videos to feast your eyes upon. There’s also new posts every day on the Almost anything Media so be sure to check out anything that might catch your eye.
