- If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?
I’m Sano Hill, an Irish singer-songwriter (based in Galway city) who writes melodic rock songs that are influenced by life, love and loss – and my musical and literary influences.
- How did you all meet?
☺ Well now ….
- How long have you been playing?
All my life really but have been releasing singles since January 2022
- What three words would you use to describe the music you play?
Passion. Soul. Folk/Rock.
- What are your musical influences?
I’ve been influenced by a wide range of musicians and musical styles – Van Morrison (particularly his earlier material, Astral Weeks, Moondance etc.) was a huge influence on me at one point, particularly the personal and folk/blues nature of his lyrics and expression. Other influences have included U2, Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Nick Cave, and Radiohead. But I like all kinds of music, from traditional to classical, folk, jazz, blues, and rock, and I guess all these influences have informed what I do, how I sing and the music I make.
- What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?
Not sure. I can’t think of anything.
- Being away from the stages in the last few years, where was the first place you visited when the restrictions were lifted?
The local pub Róisín Dubh for a pint! (it’s a fantastic venue for original live music in Galway also)
- What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?
I used to have a Bay City Rollers LP (on vinyl) – it was a family inheritance but not one I’m particularly proud of.
- What have you been listening in the last few weeks?
Mostly artists from the NAS (New Artist Spotlight) community. This is an indie musician’s support community set up by Canadian singer-songwriter Ed Eagle and it features a range of extraordinary artists in just about every genre – it’s a fantastic way to discover new indie music (https://www.newartistspotlight.org/)
- Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?
The big ambition of 2023 is to get the album – ‘If Not Now, When?’ – out. It’s nearly there – final mixing and mastering is ongoing and I’m incredibly fortunate to be collaborating with a fantastic and hugely talented Irish producer Larry Hogan who has brought my songs in really unexpected but glorious directions. I’m also grateful to Braddon Williams (who has previously worked with a range of top artists, including Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Mark Ronson, Il Divo, Wyclef Jean, Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson, P Diddy, and The Script) and is currently contributing on the final mixing and mastering process. If any of your readers would like to hear more about how the albums coming along, view my music videos and connect online you’ll find all my links here.
Thanks!
