You Need To Check Out US Hardcore Punks Scowl Before Outbreak Fest!

Santa Cruz, CA-based hardcore-punk band Scowl have had quite the exciting past few months and are set to continue making 2022 their biggest year yet. The band are joining forces with Limp Bizkit$not, and Wargasm UK on tour until May 15th, including a stop in New York City at Madison Square Garden on May 13th. From there they’ll be doing a full U.S. run supporting Destroy Boys before heading over to the U.K. and Europe for a string of festival dates. This all comes hot off the heels of their acclaimed debut album, How Flowers Grow, released in November 2021 on Flatspot Records

The ten songs on the album are a masterclass in how to write heartfelt punk and hardcore without losing the sense of youthful enthusiasm and fun that makes the genre compelling to begin with. The lyrics are delivered with a biting sense of anger and self-reflection, dealing with everything from personal betrayals to socio-economic strife. With an undisputed authenticity and intensity found in both their recordings and live show, Scowl has certainly planted a seed for their takeover of hardcore and beyond.

Scowl Release New Single, ‘Seeds To Sow’

Scowl have shared their latest single, “Seeds To Sow”, off their upcoming LP, How Flowers Grow out November 19th on Flatspot Records. The new track explores a more melodic, old-school punk-meets-rock style sound that is still brimming with the youthful hardcore energy the band exemplifies. The vocals are charmingly catchy, accompanied by a rock n’ roll saxophone line that carries the tune in a completely unexpected way.

Speaking on the track, vocalist Kat Moss states:

“I love this song. I had no expectations going into recording it as it was supposed to be strictly instrumental— but at the very end of recording we kinda just went for it. I messed around with some of my lyrics from the title track and basically wrote a prelude. I loved hearing that kinda thing on a record growing up, I always felt like it tied everything together and was almost a sort of musical “fourth wall break”. I love to sing but had zero expectations for recording my singing voice, it was just a lot of fun.”
