There was a lot of buzz around this one! You Me At Six’s release shows at the back of last year to celebrate the anniversary of the record that made them, ‘Hold Me Down’. Not only that, the band also had the incredible LONA on their support.
Sixers fans had waited two years to hear what the band had to offer from these shows and fans weren’t disappointed, with everyone in the camp ready to go, it was an experience unlike any other… that is until the anniversary of Sinners Never Sleep comes around later this year.
Having never heard of LONA until this evening, it was quite different to what I was expecting. First off, his lankiness would make one think of Machine Gun Kelly but you couldn’t be more wrong. Instead you get a more soulful and at times energetic artist that deeply connects to the crowd in a way that most don’t. With Tracks such as ‘Darkest Days’ and ‘Boys Get Sad’, one could say that he’s an emo at heart going by the track titles alone.
With quite a strong support act, it’s easy to forget that You Me At Six will take to the stage in a little while and we couldn’t get more excited.
I don’t think the atmosphere couldn’t have been better if people tried. Tracks such as ‘Underdog’, ‘Liquid Confidence’ just made the audiences heart melt and in the encore ‘Bite My Tongue’ just elevated the entire venue to a whole other level. ‘Where My Underdogs At?’ says frontman Franceschi. You know things are about to get real when he says that. The Guitar riffs and pits that erupt from here are second to none. You see why they came to Leeds because of this.
With all of the eruption from this, sonically it’s an absolutely sound show because the amount of love for these tracks that fans have is unquestionable. During ‘Liquid Confidence’, that has to be one the spot in the setlist where audience participation was at an all time high, signing the lyrics right back to them. But if you think that performance was grand, just wait for the Sinners Anniversary shows later this year.
Once again, You Me At Six prove just how much of a force they are and ready to tackle more, especially with their back catalogue of tracks.
There’s been a last minute addition to Leeds Festival.
With Machine Gun Kelly and Fever 333 among two of the acts due to miss the event, Waterparks and You Me At Six have signed up to play 2021 iteration of the festival.
In addition, Creeper have announced they have had to drop out due to positive COVID cases in their touring party.
“We are sad to announce that due to members of our touring party testing positive for COVID and in keeping with current government guidelines, Creeper will no longer be performing at Reading & Leeds festival this weekend.
As it stands we are still appearing at Slam Dunk festival next week. We apologise to those looking forward to seeing us and hope you understand and respect the decision.”
High flying UK Quartet You Me At Six have released a video for ‘WYDRN’ (‘What You Doing Right Now’), a track off their seventh album, ‘Suckapunch’.
The video for the track is composed of videos submitted by the band’s fans (referred to as ‘Sixers’), dancing and singing along to the song.
On the video frontman Josh Franceschi says:
“During a time in which we haven’t seen as much of you as we would’ve liked, we wanted to make a music video with you, our fans. Together we made a video for ‘WYDRN’. Something just to celebrate life in a testing period. We hope you enjoy it, and thank you to all our fans for their submissions.”
Check out the video for ‘WYDRN’ below.
The bands seventh full length record is out now via Underdog Records. Orders can be made from the band’s webstore.
You Me At Six have had to reschedule their upcoming UK Tour! The snag on the news is that their rescheduled dates aren’t going to happen in Cardiff, Glasgow and Birmingham.
Saint PHNX and NOISY will still be supporting.
In a short statement, the band had this to say:
“Unfortunately, we’ve been unable to find a new date for the Glasgow, Cardiff, and Birmingham shows. Truly sorry to all our fans there who have been waiting for these shows. Believe us, so have we. We’re working on something else to make it up to you. More news soon.”
Here are the tour dates.

You Me At Six have shared a 30-piece orchestral live version of their track ‘Glasgow’.
This comes off their recently released record ‘SUCKAPUNCH’, which will see them on tour throughout May, then performing a number of album launch shows in July.
Lead vocalist Josh Franceschi says: “Recording a rendition of Glasgow with an orchestra at the historic Abbey Road Studios was a collective career goal. It was truly special to take a song written in my basement, recording it in Thailand and then performing it live in Abbey Road Studios.”
Check out the Orchestral Version of ‘Glasgow’ below.
Last week, You Me At Six released their latest record ‘SUCKAPUNCH’ out into the world via Underdog / AWAL Records.
It has been confirmed that the record has now debuted at the very top of the UK Albums Chart.
This is the second record from YMAS that has hit No.01 with ‘Cavalier Youth’ debuting at the top spot in 2014. In addition, it’s the band’s 6th Top Ten record, with 2010’s ‘Hold Me Down’ at No.05, 2011’s ‘Sinners Never Sleep’, at No.03, 2017’s ‘Night People’ at No.03 and 2018’s ‘VI’ at No.06.
A truly incredible moment for our band. Our love for our fan base & their support is endless. They have been the light at the end of a tunnel of a pretty rough time. The support of our loved ones, family, partners, friends. Everyone who worked on this record.
Dan Austin & the rest of our studio family who worked relentlessly to make this with us. Finally, I guess a thank you to those who caused us pain, or wrote us off. You’ve been the driving force. Our second number one almost seven years later is just madness. Sixers for life.
Last week, You Me At Six released their latest record, ‘Suckapunch’.
The record is on track to debut at the top of the UK Albums Chart and is currently sitting at the top of the aforementioned chart.
It’s sitting ahead of Sleaford Mods who are in second with their record, ‘Spare Ribs’.
At the moment, if things stay as they are this will be their second No.01 record, with 2014’s ‘Cavalier Youth’ being their first. In addition, it will also be their 6th Top Ten Record.
There’s only days until the release of You Me At Six’s brand new record, ‘SUKAPUNCH’ and the band have a little behind the scenes look for everyone in the form of a mini-documentary on the making of the record.
The lads flew out to Thailand to record with Dan Austin, who also worked on their previous album ‘VI’, at Karma Sound studio in Bang Saray and looked like they had the most beautiful and inspiring time ever.
Every member adds their own piece of context in the clip which has been released in association with Amazon Music.
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the New Music Video Roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!
First up this week is Ginesse. This is the artist project of Los Angeles-based actress Cait Fairbanks — is sharing the video for “LA Isn’t Somewhere To Die” from her newly released EP, ‘Somewhere To Die.’
A hazy, melancholic indie-pop number, “LA Isn’t Somewhere To Die” is one of the five new songs featured on Ginesse’s new EP, ‘Somewhere To Die.’ Written in the aftermath of a particularly challenging breakup, the single is a thank you to the friends who stick around, even through the hard times. “LA can be a lonely place,” she says, “but this is a love song to the dope friends in my life who keep me from blowing my brains out, honestly.” Directed by Natalie Fält (Tegan and Sara, WENS, Lila Gold) and styled by Jordan Douglas at JXJ Studio, the “LA Isn’t Somewhere To Die” video is a haunting, vintage wonderland that feels like the perfect extension of the nostalgic world introduced throughout the EP.
Performing under the name Cait Fairbanks, Ginesse has already made quite a splash in the acting realm with her two-time Emmy-nominated role on The Young and the Restless and her performance as Veronica in the critically acclaimed off-Broadway show, Heathers: The Musical. In 2018 she launched her musical project, Ginesse, to enthusiastic praise from the likes of PAPER, NYLON, and Billboard.
Perhaps due to her strong thespian roots, she admits that she often approaches Ginesse as “a character to play.” But she also acknowledge that this is the perfect outlet to boil herself down in. She’s not wearing a wig or spandex but instead presents the most concentrated version of herself by telling genuine stories via metaphors that emote relatable, uncomfortable situations and feelings. “I want my music to make people feel like the whole world is wrapping around them,” says Ginesse. “If I give someone an emotional picture of a specific moment, that is truly special.“
Seconds up this week are Scranton Quartet Tigers Jaw with their second track to come from their upcoming record, ‘I Won’t Care How You Remind Me’.
Speaking about the track, vocalist/keyboardist Briana Collins had this to say.
“The lyrics for ‘Lemon Mouth’ are very personal and introspective. Sometimes self-reflection only happens for me when I’m thinking about characteristics that I want to change about myself. It can look like this sort of scanning of my own habits, things that are so consistent and familiar- but I can’t figure out the reason why I do them.
‘Lemon Mouth’ is the only song on the record that Colin [Gorman, bassist] plays guitar on and the first song that we had ever worked on writing together, which I think is really special. In the early stages of writing for the record, I showed Colin an iPhone voice memo of an idea I had written on guitar for a verse, but the chorus wasn’t all the way there and I wanted to know if he had any ideas. He picked up the guitar and played what he was thinking could work and it immediately made the song feel more complete. He helped push ‘Lemon Mouth’ from just a rough demo idea to a real song.”
Now recently, Eighty Ninety — the NYC based alt-pop project of brothers Abner (vocals, production) and Harper (guitar, production) James — have released the official music video for their new single, “Better As Friends.” In keeping with the band’s musical style, the new music video is both cinematic and minimalist, juxtaposing the picturesque New York City skyline with intimate studio shots.
“Better as Friends” is a dreamy mix of contemporary pop and hazy chillwave production propelled by a driving pulse that culminates in a yearning, widescreen chorus complete with soaring melodies, lush arrangements and the band’s distinctive guitar work. Following the brothers’ previous release, “Happier,” “Better as Friends” is the second single from Eighty Ninety’s forthcoming sophomore EP, slated for release in 2021. The EP was created in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Gian Stone (Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Dua Lipa).
Eighty Ninety first broke out with their hit 2016 single, “Three Thirty,” which climbed to #2 on Spotify’s Global Viral Charts and was closely followed by their debut EP Elizabeth. Since then, the duo’s music has garnered over 26 million streams, featured on numerous Spotify playlists (New Music Friday, Pop Rising, Indie Pop, Chill Vibes, Viral Hits, and many more) and was even hand-picked by Taylor Swift for her official Spotify playlist “Songs Taylor Loves.”
The NYC based duo’s songs fuse intimate storytelling, sticky melodies, and minimalist pop productions built on acoustic instruments and electronic sounds in a style they call “808s and telecasters” — a shorthand for both their music and their anything-goes mentality in the studio. “We let the emotional arc of the song, rather than any set of genre conventions, lead us to instruments and sounds,” the brothers say of their process.
Moving on in this weeks roundup Brooklyn-based indie pop artist Middle Part creates synth-laden music in the hopes of making you feel something. Composed with honesty and sincerity, his music takes inspiration from both 90’s and early Millenium alternative bands. Middle Part was born when singer Andrew Selkōw moved to the deepest parts of Northern Alaska to find himself, after experiencing a major meltdown. Living in a shipping container in the isolated vastness of the Alaskan wilderness, Selkōw ignited his love for literature and music, with the musician sharing, “Art is important, no matter how you decide to approach it. There’s no age or formula so just create. It’s the most healing form of therapy I’ve ever experienced.”
His latest single “Busy” is the third single to be released off of I Wish I Was Alive. Detailing the songwriters interpersonal relationships and ego death, it is inspired by early millennium alt pop artists like Michelle Branch and Natalie Imbruglia, with a modernized sonic twist to the likes of Clairo. The stripped back “Busy” is set on a backbone of chugging acoustic guitars, breakbeats and sprinkled with synthesizers to achieve a sonically nostalgic song about the pitfalls of friendship in an attempt to signify that ego is unnecessary, and vulnerability should be the priority.
Selkōw confides, “A lot of this record is about ego, vulnerability, and dealing with loss. It’s also about finding a balance with your mental well being. Busy touches on that theme of letting go of your ego and being more vulnerable with the people around you. That’s the message I’m trying to get across, and I feel that ties in with the EP’s title, which is all about being more present rather than mentally checked out.”
Listening to Middle Part is like reading one of Selkōw’s journal entries and uncovering all the back and forth he has in his head on a regular basis. His honest songwriting grants people access to creating art in a safe space, admitting, “I just want people to relate. I so desperately want to connect and that might be the message.”
Now this next band For You The Moon has recently been on my radar with their signing to Slam Dunk Records with new single, ‘Lost Without It’.
It’s an early teaser from the pop-rock newcomers’ upcoming debut EP, set for release in 2021, and it arrives with a video that was shot in their current homebase of Leeds.
Frontman Isaac Cooter explains: “I wrote ‘Lost Without It’ when I was in that weird period after breaking up with somebody, in that place where you’re really trying to numb your own feelings and I was partying more often than I wasn’t. You end up surrounded by other people who are just as out of it as you are, probably trying to forget their problems by doing the same thing.”
The other week Palm Reader finally got to release their latest record, ‘Sleepless’.
The band released a video for ‘A Bird And Its Feathers’, just before the release of the record, which is one of the album’s most epic and expansive moments.
Vocalist Josh Mckeown had this to say about the track’s meaning:
“A Bird And It’s Feathers’ is a song about love, though I wouldn’t call it a ‘love song’. At least not in the traditional sense. I came to realise that I hadn’t written about it before and felt like that was an avenue I needed to explore in order to progress as a songwriter and as a human being with emotions and feelings. I wanted to speak about the intoxication of lust, of falling in love and the beauty in the darker side of those moments. I’ve found that love can feel like a sickness and also be the cure, so I really tried to get that point across. It was one of the final songs that made it to the cut for Sleepless and I’m so glad it did!”
Now, Ghostemane has once again teamed up artistically with his fiancée Poppy for a grippingly dark new video, Hydrochloride. This might be one of my favourite videos to date this year and it just shows you never know what amazing things December might bring. Or whenever you watch it.
Speaking to Kerrang! about the creative brilliance of Poppy, Ghostemane gushed recently, “As a visual artist, she’s just unmatched. That’s the one area of my career which I was never really able to fully realise myself. It’s a weird feeling putting a piece of myself into her hands like this, and waiting to see how it unfolds. But I’m excited. She’s an awesome partner. It’s the opposite of a toxic relationship.
Dark Metal sensation LORD OF THE LOST just released a new official video for “We Were Young” featuring Heaven Can Wait Choir, cut from their latest classical ensemble album Swan Songs III.
The heart-wrenching version includes intimate reminiscences from Chris Harms’ childhood and showcases a touching new facet of their bold universe. Told through genuine memories and clearly narrated through the style of a vintage Super8 camera, the audiovisual symbolizes the most personal output to date. The outstanding band proves once again that the greatest inspiration and the best director is life itself.
“With the new video for ‘We Were Young’ I would like to say thank you to my parents. The video is a reflection of my happy childhood, thanks to them, which paved the way for me to become who I am today. The video shows real Super8 film footage from my birth in 1980 until 1994, when the magnetic tape slowly replaced the celluloid. In the credits of the video you can see the time before my birth, which my parents have captured on film for themselves since 1967. The director of this video was life itself and it shows here an origin story that could not have been more personal”. – Chris Harms
Penultimate track time now! This is the incredible Wargasm.
‘Rage All Over’ is a combination of snotty punk attitude, industrial leaning atmospheres and several boots to the temple that will keep rattling round your head long after it has finished.
Plus the video is a dizzying three minute epic with plenty of discomforting imagery for you to lose yourself in.
The duo had this to say about the track:
“It always starts with a smile, and ends with something sick and twisted. Politicians lie. People are brainwashed. Services get cut. No one can afford a house. The cost of living goes up. Our wages go down. Art suffers. People suffer. The forests are burning, the waters full of chemicals and every day theres a new false flag hoisted next to a very real knife dangling above our heads. Nothing changes and nothing gets better. We wouldn’t say Wargasm is a political band; but we’re not just pissed off, we’re rage all over”
Lastly this week, You Me At Six have released the title track from their upcoming new album ‘SUCKAPUNCH’, and this is a little bit of a left turn for me.
It’s a track which has a build and never say die sentiment holding it all together, where it shows how far the band are willing to push their sound. Could this be the best YMAS record to date?
‘SUCKAPUNCH’ is set for release on January 15 via Underdog Records/AWAL.
And that’s it for another week of a countdown of the best singles out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. If you have any suggestions for me to check out, be sure to send an email or message us via the socials on Facebook or Twitter!
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the new music video roundup. We’re here for a roundup of ten of the best recently released music videos. They’re not all within the same genre and they’re all different in some way or another but that means that there’s a little something for everyone here but come on, let’s get down to the music!
First up in this weeks music video roundup, we have the Pop-Punk phenoms Makeout.
Kyle says, “‘Home’ is my first song and video release with the band. We co-wrote the song with Jayden Seeley [of With Confidence] and it was produced by Matt Holmes with some help from Travis Barker and Matt Malpass. We knew right away that we loved the track and the reception from our fans has been great so when it came time to do the video we wanted to make sure we did something different.”
He adds, “The question we had was: ‘how can we make a cool and clever video while being quarantined and while social distancing?’ It was not a typical scenario. There were only a few of us allowed on set and everyone had to have masks on but it really came together when we decided to use an old 8mm camera and to project the scenes of the band playing on the wall behind me. Our director Kyle Cogan and his team at Simian Design really helped conceptualize this and bring it all to life.”
Next up we’re going to have a change of pace for it in the form of Brutus. the track is taken from the bands brand new live record ‘Live In Ghent’ out on 23rd October through Hassle Records.
Capturing this incendiary outfit in their hometown of Ghent in front of 750 of their most die hard fans at this special, sold out show, is seen by the band as a way to balance out the fact a year of touring has been taken away from them and all musicians.
On the release for the video of ‘All Along’, the band say:
‘We released All Along on November 21, 2016. It was the first song of our debut album BURST, which came out early 2017. Back then, we had absolutely no idea about what would happen. We had no big plan, not even big dreams. We had played a hundred shows mostly in Belgium, when all of a sudden there was this warm independent label called Hassle Records and some guys called Wez and Mease who wanted to release our first album BURST. All Along was the first song out. Our world changed. 2018 and 2019 were all about touring all over Europe and even the USA and writing NEST. We had to strip down day jobs and cut in on family life to follow this rising dream. We’ve learned that our music touches a lot of people and we are truly honoured by that. All Along is definitely the song that got everything rolling. That’s why All Along will always be a special song to us. Hope you’ll love this live version as much as we do.’
Moving to Melbourne, Australia for the next choice in the roundup we have the hard hitting Alpha Wolf. They’re a band who don’t shy away from the darker parts of the human soul and with their latest single, ‘Restricted (R18+)’, vocalist Lochie Keogh stared as deeply into the void as he could, to face the monster inside us all.
He commented: “Restricted is about selfishly bearing the burden and weight of something terrible that’s happened to someone you love. While you struggle with feelings of helplessness and the inability to protect those you care about, your mind wanders and fixates on exacting revenge so brutal and heinous that you can no longer differentiate between the monsters out there, and the one inside yourself.”
Guitarist Scott Simpson dove deeper into the formation of this track and that moment where everything just clicked. “The main ideas for this song were started when Mitch came down for a writing session in my studio. We knew we wanted to push the boundaries of how heavy we could take Alpha Wolf. As it came together musically we knew it was heading in that direction, but as soon the vocals were added onto the track it just went to that next level, and fast became a favourite of everyone in the band.”
‘Restricted (R18+)’ marks the fourth single off Alpha Wolf’s upcoming sophomore album ‘a quiet place to die’ which will be released via Greyscale Records / Sharptone Records on September 25th.
We’re headed to Brazil for the heavy giants Sepultura with a cut off their latest full length record, ‘Quadra’.
The environmentally conscious video was created in collaboration Amazon Frontlines, a non-profit organisation based in the Upper Amazon that leverages technology, legal advocacy, and movement building to support indigenous peoples to defend their rights to land, life, and cultural survival in the Amazon Rainforest.
Keeping the metal alive with Pallbearer as out next choice in a video to accompany ‘The Quicksand Of Existing’, which is off their upcoming record, ‘Forgotten Days’.
On the release, Joseph Rowland (Bass) says:
“As we strive to be, the forces of entropy perpetually pull us down into a state of being unmade. The body degrades; the mind and memories fray into unwoven threads, no longer connected to the rich fabric of the self. Choices made upon our separate and conjoined paths may find us engulfed in a mire of our unmaking. I wanted this song to face this reality with a grim determination.”
Fit For A King have released their utterly devastating new record via Solid State. Check it out because devastating is the right word for it.
Off the record, ‘The Path’ is an amazing track off the record and it is one track that makes the band what they are.
Next up is one of the best British kings of rock. Jamie Lenman in fact as it’s the latest look into his mini record, ‘King Of Clubs’ which dropped today.
“‘Like Me Better’ was one of the tracks I added to the album when I decided I wanted to make something with a bit more depth than an EP. I had to go against my instincts and trust the strength of the song in order to not fuss it up or make it more complex than it needed to be – just three chords and a slow beat. I ended up whacking a big riff at the end of it cos I love big riffs but otherwise it’s a very simple tune, and probably better for it.
Lyrically it’s about things that repulse you at first but later you come to appreciate. This could apply to food or music or anything that provokes a strong reaction but in this instance it’s definitely about people and physical attraction. When people talk about having a secret crush, it’s usually about someone who looks a bit odd but nevertheless has a certain something about them. The whole record is about complex, contradictory and potentially uncomfortable feelings so it fits right in.”
California’s on our radar next for Touché Amoré and the follow on from their July single ‘Limelight’. ‘Lament’ is the title track off their upcoming record, set to be released on October 9th 2020 via Epitaph Records.
Oh we forgot to mention, Manchester Orchestra’s frontman Andy Hull has a guest appearance as well!
And for the penultimate choice of the roundup, following on from the release of ‘No Good Left to Give’, Californian stars Movements have a video for ‘Santiago Peak’ which I know isn’t a music video technically but the visual style is one that needs to be watched right now.
Lastly we had to go British for the sheer passion this video gives. You Me At Six are well and truly back in the spotlight now with their upcoming record, ‘Suckpunch’ just been announced and their latest single ‘Beautiful Way’ finds the band breaking ground into something which is a little different but all the same amazing to hear.
And that’s it for another week of a countdown of the best singles out in the world in the last week. Be sure to check back next-time for another round of great music videos. If you have any suggestions for me to check out, be sure to send an email or message us via the socials on Facebook or Twitter!
