YUNGBLUD’s latest track ‘The Funeral’ is finally here, and it is an anthem to say the least
And here are some of Dom’s own musings on it:
“I’d spent a lot of time in the last 18 months grappling with who I really want to be. I’ve honestly just felt like a bit of a hypocrite lately. I’d spent the past 4 years telling people to be unapologetically themselves and to not care about what others think and realized that was something I needed to tell myself. I felt a lot of pressure, a lot of insecurity, a lot of questioning myself. But then I wrote this song and it distilled for me what this next phase in my life, not just my career, was gonna be about. The lyrics are literally me listing off everything I’m insecure about because if you identify with what you don’t like about yourself and own it, no one can say anything that you haven’t already said to yourself. You become bulletproof. This song’s about owning those insecurities and just being fucking fearless. It’s about ego, death, rebirth and fucking dancing on your grave. Inviting everyone to join you, but if you’re on your own and you’re the only one dancing – that’s fine too. for this new music, i looked at myself in the mirror and said “you ain’t gonna be around forever, how do you want to be remembered? and if you were hit by a car tomorrow and you could sing one more thing before you become worm food, would this song be it? Truly, the answer is yes. I would take this to my grave.”
But in addition, the video has some music royalty in the form of The Prince Of Darkness himself Ozzy Osbourne himself as well as his wife Sharon Osbourne.
Ozzy and Sharon make an appearance throughout a clip that finds Dom either laid in his casket or driving as fast as he can to make it watch himself on stage.
Yungblud has announced that he is teaming up with Mercury Studios & Interscope Films in order to create a short film based on his track, ‘Mars’.
The film which is initially inspired by a conversation with a fan in Maryland says the film will follow a day in the life of a character called Charlie Acaster who all they have “ever wanted is a normal teenage existence – at least that’s what she thinks. Now one extraordinary night will make her reassess what truly matters.”
Dom had this to say about the story:
“This story is an uncensored, unfiltered portrayal of youth. It revels in the fragile beauty of it, flirts with the pain of it and most importantly the undeniable, glimmering hope of it. It presents a generational shift towards acceptance of one’s self and others, and ever growing confidence in our own insecurities.”
The screenplay for the film has been written by Chris Bush and will be directed by Abel Rubinstein. It will be produced by Dom alongside Cat Marshall, and Stefan Demetriou. They are also committed to securing on and off-screen talent from the trans, non-binary and wider LGBTQ+ community for the project as well. It’s being aimed to be released in the Spring of next year.
“I cannot wait to make my first film. This whole journey started with an encounter. Then it became a song, now it’s becoming a movie. All my art is about and forever will be about, is making people feel like they can be undeniably themselves, whoever they are – and with this project we’re turning that message up to 11.
“The team we’ve assembled is incredible, I am so honoured to stand with them all behind this beautiful project and to have them help me bring it to life. I can honestly say if you don’t adore this movie, then I can guarantee you’ll fucking learn something from it.
‘You’ll see our stars and touch our scars, only when Mars doesn’t have to wait!’”
And Chris Bush had this to say about being involved:
“Mars is a story where the mundane and the magical sit side by side. It’s Space Age escapism shot through with Northern grit. More than anything I hope it’s honest. I’m hugely proud to be working with YUNGBLUD, and the fantastic creative team we’ve assembled. The queer kids are alright.”
The track is the first tastes of new music since the release of his latest album ‘weird!’, released at the end of last year, and sees him push back against people trying to tell him how to express himself.
“I wrote ‘fleabag’ in a really dark time of my life, when a lot of people around me had an expectation about what I should be,” he explains. “To tell you the truth it’s about being fucking gutted about people judging me and trying to tear me down. I felt so alienated, I felt so alone.
“When everybody else has an expectation of what you should be or have their own version of your truth it messes with your brain because you start to think ‘maybe they’re right, maybe they do know what’s best for me, maybe I should change who I am,’ but ultimately I believe to my core – it’s the foundation I built my whole ideology around, that self-expression and the right to be unconditionally yourself is the best thing you can be. Nobody should determine how you express yourself except YOU. You are brilliant, you are beautiful, you are individual just by breathing.
“This song is a kick back. A kick back against the world, a kick back against my friends, against my family and some of my fanbase. I am who I am, all I want to do is spread love and lead with my heart. I’ve always told people to be themselves, sometimes I have to remember that message myself.”
OVer ninety plus acts have been announced for the upcoming 2021 iteration of the Leeds And Reading Festival.
Yungblud, Neck Deep and Fever 333 will be joined by Boston Manor, Creeper, Machine Gun Kelly, Spiritbox and more!
Also, I’m going to throw in a guess that MGK and Yungblud will pop in and out for each others sets? Only because they have made some huge tracks together and they’re right next to each other on the lineup!
Yungblud’s latest record ‘Weird’ has been certified Silver in the UK.
This means the record released only in December has equated to 60,000 sales as well as debuting at the No.01 place in the UK Albums Chart!
This joins his debut album ’21st Century Liability’ which was certified Silver back in October of last year. Other certifications come from ‘I Think I’m OKAY’, his collaboration track with Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker and also ‘Parents’ which has just been certified Silver.
A few weeks ago Yungblud’s track ‘Parents’ started going viral on TikTok again. So viral that it surpassed 100,000 million streams on Spotify AND has been certified Silver in the UK.
Well to coincide with it, Dom started his own Duet trend where he asked fans to sing their own verse to the instrumental.
Check it out below.
The first video on the post is by Chloe Noone from Liverpool. Yungblud loved her version so much he released a new version with her featuring her part.
chloe is 19 years old! her verse just jumped out of the screen and especially right now what she is talking about is somethin people rly need to hear! i couldn’t wait to release a song with one of you it was always gonna happen! PARENTS feat. Chloe noon out now! (link in bio) 🖤 pic.twitter.com/fk0Ew2Ue4Z
“Parents is very much the anthem for my fan base and when I saw it was re-emerging on TikTok I asked them if I should get an artist to remix it and who should that artist be. Then it occurred to me, this song is about us, it is a celebration of individuality and a celebration of the determination of my generation so i thought **** it I’m gonna release a record with one of my fans because this song is about my fans. I found Chloe Noone, a 19-year-old from Liverpool who in her verse is singing so passionately about equality for women, it just jumped out to me and especially right now is something people need to hear!
I love Chloe and her family are amazing, I can’t wait to bring her out on stage to sing it with me. YUNGBLUD is about destroying the barriers between me and my fan base, we are one!”
And Chloe added this:
“This whole experience has just been surreal. I have been a fan of YUNGBLUD for a while now but I never expected my verse in the “Parents” duet to get much attention let alone being called up by YUNGBLUD and asked to feature on the track. I honestly thought it was going to be a very long time before I was part of something this professional and legitimate.
“I’m so grateful to YUNGBLUD and his whole team for making my dream of being an artist see the light sooner than I expected. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Yesterday Yungblud has dropped a new livestream special one-year anniversary edition of The Yungblud Show.
The latest installment of his YouTube series was a livestream to benefit the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund, featuring Avril Lavigne, Machine Gun Kelly, KSI – who he’s also just teamed up with for new single‘Patience’ – Renforshort, andLILHUDDY.
“It’s been so hard for independent venues,” he reflects. “I wanted to partner with NIVA because independent venues are the backbone of the music industry and give young artists the chance to have their music heard. everyone has been missing a rock n roll show, I think it’s about time we gave them one!”
