Band Interview Of The Day – Ivy Gold

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of the Band Of The Day Interview. Today for you we have a newly formed Blues Rock quartet known as Ivy Told. In this interview we get to know them a little better and find out what they’ve been listening to recently! Let’s dive in!

  1. If could introduce yourselves for us, who are you?

We are a newly formed contemporary bluesrock band called Ivy Gold and my name is Manou, I am the singer. Ivy Gold got together kind of by coincidence – OUT OF THE BLUE.  Sebastian and I had done a pre-production of a bunch of our songs. We initially just wanted to see what our songs sound like and that was it in a way. Most of the songs actually sounded pretty good and the idea came up to send the demos out to a few people and see what happens. That’s when everything started.

  1. How did you all meet?

Well, after we were finished with the pre-production, we decided to get in touch with Tal Bergman who has worked with Joe Bonamassa and many other awesome artists. He did like our music a lot and joined us immediately. Believe me – I was thrilled! From that point on we knew we had something special going on – totally out of the blue we had a project and we decided to put a great band together, not only for the studio but also for live touring. Our friend Kevin Moore joined right after and then I asked my dear friend Sari Schorr to help me find a great keyboard player – that’s how we found the awesome Anders Olinder from the UK. And then I had put together a very special cosmopolitan band with members from the US, the UK and Germany!

  1. How long have you been playing?

We all have been playing many years, the majority of the band has been in the business, live and in the studio for more than 30 years. So I feel very honoured to have this great band that give me the opportunity to really bring forth my stories that I want to tell the people out there!

  1. What three words would you use to describe the music you play?

Contemporary Blues Rock

  1. What are your musical influences?

I have been into many different styles in the past. I have a classical background as I studied classical vocal lessons for quite some time. Afterwards I got some experiences with Musicals, Gospel and different cover bands in the German music scene. I always loved Blues and Rock and listened to Joe Bonamassa, TOTO, Steve Lukather, Richie Kotzen, Glenn Hughes… so these great artists really had the most impact on my personal style.

  1. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen during a show?

People not paying attention to the music, chatting with others, eating and turning their back on the stage and the musicians… not a nice experience but those things do happen.

  1. Being away from the stages since last year, where is the one place you’d visit when the restrictions are lifted?

Oh I don’t have one specific place or stage. I just hope that live shows will be open soon and then we take it as it comes… and of course some nice festivals in the summer would be lovely :-))

  1. What’s the one record you own but wouldn’t ever admit to owning?

I actually did buy a SHAGGY Cd many many years ago :-))

  1. What have you been listening in the last few weeks?

I have been listening a lot to Glenn Hughes, Jade Macrae, Richie Kotzen and Joe Bonamassa!

  1. Are there any releases you have planned in the near future?

We just released our debut album “Six Dusty Winds” in March 2021. We are very happy with the great press feedback we have gotten so far!! Now we are planning on touring as soon as possible… and of course new song material is being created as well.

So we hope you check us out!!

Thanks so much for this interview!! And of course for sharing and supporting Ivy Gold 🙂 we really appreciate it a lot – it means a lot to us!!

All the best to all of you!!
