Twisterella – Middlesbrough’s award-winning multi-venue music festival – returns on Saturday 8th October 2022, with hotly tipped emerging artists including Benefits, Swim School, Prima Queen, Panic Shack, Bull, Noisy, and Bandit amongst the first wave of critically acclaimed acts announced.
With all of the venues less than a 5 minute walk from one another, the 1,250 capacity multi-venue metropolitan music festival utilises established stages such as Teesside University Students’ Union, The Townhouse, TSOne and The Westgarth Social Club, along with pop-up sessions in some of the town’s coolest bars in nearby Baker Street and Bedford Street.
Detailing their first lineup announcement, co-promoter Andy Carr revealed: “Twisterella returns this October with an action-packed line up featuring with some of the most exciting new and emerging artists around. We can’t wait for fans to discover and make an early connection with their new favourite act, and all of this right in the heart of Middlesbrough. It’s going to be another brilliant year!”
Kingsley Chapman, frontman in headliners Teesside punks Benefits, added: “We’re very excited to be playing Twisterella this year. After selling out the Middlesbrough date on our last tour it seemed only right to come back and do what we do again. The overwhelming buzz of positivity and unity in the room back in April was thrilling – that we’re getting similar reactions to our performances up and down the country is extraordinary. In short, we can’t wait to be back.”
Since launching in 2014, Twisterella has established itself as one of the go-to events for new music discovery on the UK festival circuit, having brought the likes of Sam Fender, Fickle Friends, Dream Wife, Black Honey, Lauran Hibberd, The Howl & The Hum, Bloxx, Boy Azooga and more to the heart of Middlesbrough.
Consequently, in 2019, Twisterella won a prestigious AIF Independent Festival Award for its ‘forward thinking bookings‘, reflecting the event’s track record in showcasing the finest emerging national and international talent, as well as giving a platform to a select number of local and regional acts who are ready to make the step up to the big stage.
In 2022, Twisterella will follow in this tradition by playing host to the brightest and best breaking bands, with Benefits, Swim School, Noisy, Prima Queen, Panic Shack, Bull, Nukuluk, Bandit, Treeboy & Arc, San Lorenz, Pit Pony, Cara Rose, Jaxn, Lizzie Esau, Zela, Lilo, Last Boy, Komparrison, Viia, Onlooker, Voodoo Radio, Wax Tree Cast, Finn Forster, Taang, Sisi, Motel Carnation, Sarah Johnsone and Cosial all announced today.
